What I don't get is how people still say they haven't heard anything about this. That article references people "panicking" because they lost TV. Seriously? Time for them to go outside more often.

And yeah, I have a converter box but it's all packed away in case I need it for an older TV. I tested it out the other day and it worked well, except for the clunky VCR style interface.

If I have learned anything through this whole modding experience is:

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STUPID PEOPLE IN LARGE NUMBERS

and there are a shit ton of stupid people out there, even ones that can't comprehend the deluge of commercials that are broadcasted on the very TV they "lost"

I am not quite sure how to make out this excerpt from the article without being racist:
“Younger, African-American and Hispanic homes are disproportionately unready"

I have a person at my school who would fir under this, but she has a slight learning problem. Funny thing was I was telling another friend about her today, just let me get the log.

"I realized yesterday that out of all the people at school, I think I hate *her* the most. It seems like no matter what I ask or say, she can't seem to understand simple tasks or concepts
Like when we were filming, most of the retakes were because she could remember her line, and most were like "So can you show us around?" And today I told Turner that if we couldn't get our video exported back onto the tape, I have it online as well. She was like "Ohh, how did you do that?", I replied with it's on Youtube, and she just stared off into the distance looking all wtf.
I know its not her fault with the learning thing and all, but at least the assholes understand what I'm saying, or don't question what I say because they know I know what I'm talking about. She just makes me rage. I wonder how she is going to adapt in society. She could never get a job at a place like McDonalds, since she would forget what to do, be to slow, and talk about her dogs."

I know this is a specific case, but there are a lot of dumb people out and about.

Shit like this happens, unfortunately.

What were people expecting? That we'd live with CRT's and copper wires for the rest of our existence? Cavemen they are, I tell you!

I think this would only be racist if the word were "proportionately unready" instead.  Because that would imply that by comparison to us <lawl> mega intelligent </lawl> white folk, they are equally unready.

Does anyone use those converter boxes here?

Yes. Out of the five TVs in my house, two of them have a converter hooked on them, one is an HDTV, one is for gaming, and the last one is technically not in use.

For half of my TV needs, I just use Hulu (U.S. Only).

Sadly, I thought because of this, it almost felt like an opportunistic sham for cable and satellite providers to get more potential customers. (I basically use antennas, and I remember going to RadioShack, they said the best way if you wanted the best picture quality is through an antenna, because of providers giving you "compressed video". And also asking you to pay up a little more for HD.)
