Title: Hey Guys / Feedback
Post by: hyp3rstrike on January 31, 2009, 02:24:36 pm
Hey guys,
Hyperstrike here. I just finished downloading the mod (0.1.0 I think, from GameArena) and I tried it out. Well, frankly. *tries to contain himself..*

ZOMFG-ABSOLUTLEY-FKN-BRILLIANT! This brings so many memories back for me of the game I had for N64, that I would spend countless hours playing against my friend and waking my step-parents up. I love the shotgun! I can see a new favourite weapon. hehe.

One thing that annoys me but, is the AK47 Soviet. The way its held just looks retarded.

But other than that, omg, absolute uberawesome mod - steam should make this beauty official.

BETA 3, bitches!
It's only going to get better. ;)

On the subject of betas, ensure that you have the latest; Beta 1.1h

Aye, I've had some issues installing the patch. It makes a completely new install directory to the actual mod folder..

It is supposed to do that, since it is an unofficial patch, but no one was really opposed to it.

I wouldn't be PeskySaurus if I didn't point out that it's the KF7 Soviet, not AK47. I'm pretty sure it IS the AK47 though, the same way the raptor magnum was the desert eagle in 007:WINE (both are birds of prey, get it?) to avoid having to pay licences I guess. I have no idea though, I'm sure everyone on here knows more then I do about the naming thing.

That was fun. :D

I'm pretty sure it IS the AK47 though.

You are correct, my friend. It is based in the AK-47 assault rifle, and some changes were made in the model before release. That might be the source of some confusion.

And welcome to the forums, hyp3rstrike. Hope you enjoy your stay and make sure you play some GE:S. By the way, tell us the name you are planning on using in GE:S, because if I see you, I'll make sure I say Hi! ;D and be gentle, in every way my n00b-ness allows.

Just about every gun in GE007 is a real gun. Yes, they changed all the names for license reasons.

PP7, DD44, Klobb, KF7, D5K, Phantom, AR33, RC-P90, shotgun, automatic shotgun; they're all actual weapons.

KF7 is a AKS-47, actually ;)

The AKS-47 is the foldable butt-stock variant of the AK-47. This was just to inform those who don't know or are too lazy to search.
Thanks for the minor correction, Sean.

Here is an image of the AKS-47
http://www.sovietairborne.com/Site%20Art/AKS47.jpg (http://www.sovietairborne.com/Site%20Art/AKS47.jpg)
and here is one or the AK-47
http://www.sovietairborne.com/Site%20Art/AK47.jpg (http://www.sovietairborne.com/Site%20Art/AK47.jpg), hence the difference. The caliber is still the same, though.

P.S.: I ask you to pay close attention to my number of posts. A rather curious number, don't you think? *it was NOT funny*

KF7 is a fantasy gun designed with the AK47 as a base. It is KF7 and nothing else.

Is it possible to make the gun wielding of the K47 less retarded?

You mean the origins\animations? -- If that's what you meant, they've been fixed in Beta 3.
Title: Re: Hey Guys / Feedback
Post by: hyp3rstrike on February 01, 2009, 12:57:41 am
Im not sure. What I meant was that it looks like nothings holding it, and the angle just looks silly. Sorta like someones holding it from the stock and nothing else.

I thought the magnum looked retarded as well, but I just assumed it was a place holder magnum until Beta3+

All origins are fixed, you feel a lot better holding/firing weapons and the animations got updated big time.

Well, in that case. If you played the original there were no hands on the models. Which for arguements sake, you could say that was because of the the generation and the fact that console at the time couldn't handle it. (which is why Nintento later released the upgrade chip, and Perfect Dark had hands). However, we felt we would stick with this unique style, and not have hands on the models, or atleast on the fronts of them. As you can see from screenshots, or by playing our previous releases, we do have hands on pistols, etc.
Title: Re: Hey Guys / Feedback
Post by: hyp3rstrike on February 01, 2009, 01:38:50 am
Aye, just looks retarded to me, thats all.
Also, is it a common issue with HL2 Mods that aren't downloaded via steam to remain as an open process? I've tried Perfect Dark Source and Goldeneye Source and both leave hl2.exe still open in my processes.

After you closed the mod, or while your running it?
Title: Re: Hey Guys / Feedback

@ Sean: Does any of this mean that the revolver now looks insanely bad ass, and notj ust a brown and silver box vaugely resembling a 6 shooter (1.1h lol)
Title: Re: Hey Guys / Feedback
Post by: hyp3rstrike on February 01, 2009, 01:55:57 am
Closed/Exited. I stop playing it, and they stay as a running process on my system, which as you know would prevent any other games using hl2.exe to run, until you end the process manually.

As you can see from screenshots, or by playing our previous releases, we do have hands on pistols, etc.

I have also noticed that in the current release, if you quickly look up and then down, you can see the rest of the gun (if it's not a handgun), as well as your right hand.
;)

As far as my own personal opinion, yes.

Closed/Exited. I stop playing it, and they stay as a running process on my system, which as you know would prevent any other games using hl2.exe to run, until you end the process manually.

To be honest, I've never checked my proceses after closing any mod, so I can't really answer that. I will check that out for you; could just be your end, or maybe it's just a Valve issue.

No, I've noticed its with mods that aren't officially downloaded via steam. ie. the client install ones.
Games I've noticed this with are:

Goldeneye: Source
Perfect Dark: Source
Portal: Prelude

However games that ARE downloaded via steam as mods end the process automatically. Game I've tried that with are:

Insergency
Zombie Panic! Source
Synergy

I just tested it myself, ending the mod properly. I don't get that problem. The hl2.exe is no longer a process after I closed the mod.

Not sure why it does it to you. May of been an issue with our previous builds, but since I play BETA 3, that issue doesn't seem to be present.

I should point out that support here in AU for GES sucks. There is only ONE server in the entirety of Australia. Lol.

What was that, did you say you're going to set up a dedicated server in Austraila?

I'm afraid the kangaroos won't be happy, since bunny-hopping is blocked in Beta 3.

Sadly I don't have the bandwith to do it. Its not a Kangaroo stopping me, its that friggen Dodo bird.

Holy Christ...

I thought there were more Australians around the boards here, and specially one that was capable of hosting a server.

Even tehn, I wouldn't host any game while its still in beta. - Especially as GES has no VAC.
Title: Re: Hey Guys / Feedback
Post by: PPK on February 01, 2009, 11:18:35 am
There are GE:S servers with VAC; at least they have the little VAC symbol next to their name's. Dunno if it is actually working, though.
It really is a pain to play without VAC. It's great for cheaters to ruin our game, even though VAC isn't flawless :(...
Title: Re: Hey Guys / Feedback

Well the only server here in AU that hosts GES, is hosted by one of the biggest ISP's here in AU, Tesltra. Testra Bigpond GameArena (http://www.gamearena.com.au) and they have NO VAC at all.

144.140.154.131:27115 is the IP.

I usually play in Warrior Nation servers, that are stationed in France, I guess. They have the little icon next to them and have good ping and nice players. it is good if you want to enjoy a good game, although you might get some incredibly high ping since you're from the land down under (is it okay I call Australia this way?).

Especially as GES has no VAC.
GES, like any other source mod, has VAC. It is up to the server host to enable/disable it though.

I don't know what your deal is? What is the big deal about a "beta" moniker. This release is far from Beta, its practically final, but we haven't implemented *every* feature we want yet. Also, you should catch up with your Source information, everything is VAC protected as long as you enable it (its on by default). You really confuse me, if you won't host it if its in beta, then why would you even want to play it?

Because:
A) I do not have the bandwith to support a server. 512kbps is not a desirable speed for more than 2 people. Plus factoring in that I have three people on my home network who decide to chew up bandwith with crap, it'll cause lag for the one person.
B) I'm usually weary of betas. Its only in recent months that I've really laxxed in terms of using betas.
C) What MY deal is? Whos the person calling me a what? a Moinker? ;P
D) Forgive me if I misunderstood that its a full release. The Beta actually says otherwise.

Read it > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle

'Beta' is a nickname for software which has passed the alpha testing stage of development and has been released to users for software testing before its official release. Beta testing allows the software to undergo usability testing with users who provide feedback, so that any malfunctions these users find in the software can be reported to the developers and fixed. Beta software can be unstable and could cause crashes.

No need to worry, mate. Mark [lodle] Wake[of]theBunT  and said he was already taking care of the server hosting problems for you people in Australia. And you can be sure that they will, specially Wake, who runs a GE:S clan.

Need I say why I'm weary? I hate unnecessary crap to deal with. If I wanted that, I'd deal with my ISP with a happier attitude. I notice an issue with the GameArena server, as the gameround constantly restarts every 5 minutes.

Key word there is CAN BE. It's up to developers of said product to release a stable build. The notice is put that there, because it's not a final product and thus, unexpected things can happen, like crashes

I can assure you though that we've extensively tested our build, and crashes have been dealt with.

But, nobody is telling you to play the BETA 3 when it's released, if you don't want to that's fine. But don't complain to us that because it's not final, that your not going to play it because of your own doubts of BETA's. Thats not our problem.

I haven't experienced crashes so far, only but the open process of hl2.exe, but you said yourself it might have been fixed in Beta 3.

Never said it was your problem. I wasn't complaining either. I never said I wasn't going to play it. I merely stated that I am weary of betas and that the name containing beta can easily be misunderstood at a first glance. yes, very narrow viewed of me but by now you should be able to understand my point of view.

C) What MY deal is? Whos the person calling me a what? a Moinker? ;P

Ugh, a moniker is a title for something. And my sentence is clearly referring to the "Beta" tag as a moniker. You were passing a blanket (and wildly incorrect) assumption about our product just because of it's title. I hope we can convince you otherwise to host a server with Beta 3.

And for the record, you can experience just as much heart ache and crashes and shit with the FULL RELEASE Valve products you buy in the stores. Just because its Final doesn't mean it's bug free, that is never the truth, nothing is ever totally bug free.
