[BUG] Burning Sound

(1/4) > >>

Igmuwa:
This thing happens seldom but is still annyoing.

The soundclip from when barrels are on fire, before they explode that is.
It suddenly decides to get a own life and stuck to me, making ME sound like I'm on fire.
It moves around on the map like some ghost, catching up to me if I run away from it.
Sometimes it decides to position itself at a random spot on the map.

Now, after asking around 20 people about this and no one ever experienced it, I thought my soundcard might being the failure here, after a friend pointed it out as a possible cause.

I had my cousin join me in play.
After he blew us up by a barrel by accident, this sound came to life again.
I asked him if he heard it, yep. He heard ME being on fire and the sound chasing me if I ran away.

We re-created the scene, but this time I blew the barrel.
This time I never heard it, but he did.
It sounded like a room was burning, behind a door that is not accessible on the map.

I guess I can rule out my sound card at least, it has never caused me any issues at all that I know of.

This occurs on any server, gameplay or map.
I can't say much more than: it is triggered after barrel explosions for sure.
It comes and goes for the rest of the rounds.
Reinstalling the game couple of times didn't help.

Although as I said it's not too often to occur.
But it sure is a pain to have a constant flaming sound chasing you throughout the rest of the rounds, it gets pretty high and sharp.

Ah yes, also when the previous map was Siberia, the wind sound can stuck too and play in the next map. Don't mind that so much though.  :D

killermonkey:
This is truly weird...

namajnaG:
This bug was unfortunately present in every Source game, As far as I'm aware of. Had this bug several times in HL2DM, CS:S and TF2.
Can it be fixed? You can only hope, Hah.

PPK:
Oh, that! When you told me about the bug, I perceived it as something else. It has happened to me once or twice as well. Well, according to the gent right above me, it seems it's not a fault of the GES team but instead it's Valve again.

Mangley:
There is a command 'stopsounds', which you can enter into console that will stop any looping sounds that are playing. (not 100% certain)

Check your windows audio output hardware acceleration is set to full, sometimes it can cause funky problems when it's not.

Beyond that I'm afraid the only explanation I can think of is your computer is haunted.

As for the wind sounds from Siberia, they are a result of the map you're currently on not having any soundscapes, in which case the environmental sounds of the area of the previous map you were in will continue playing. Which map was it?
