Moonraker Lasers?
« on: June 08, 2009, 08:50:05 pm »

Hey, one weapon I really remember from GE is the Moonraker Laser. So far I haven't been in a game that had it. Is it in the game or is the server I'm playing on just not using it? I'd love to have some Laser battles :).

We need a modeller and skinner to get it done.

In the mean time, set your server to silver_pp7s, aside from the ammo issue and the pew pew sound, Silver PP7 and Moonraker are almost identical weapons.

What if I modeled and skinned the weapon myself? Would I be on the team then? :D

Actually, to clarify, it is modeled and textured. It needs to be animated, which hopefully we will get done soon with our new animators.

Aren't the animations quite literally just up and down movements? I don't remember GE64 having anything more complex than that. :P

I think it's a little more then that. well, in case of the laser, you won't need a reload animation, but weapon sway and fire animations might be usefull.

The complications of the Moonraker Laser lie in creating a bitchin sprite doodad for the laser itself. The rest of it is plain sailing.

An idea that deviates from the goldeneye game but would fix the "unlimited ammo" hole would be battery pickups for the laser. Maybe that would work for it?

I may take a stab at a laser sprite when i get home. (At school now)

It's not a hole. It's the nature of the weapon.

Technically speaking, in 007, it starts with 0 ammunition, but when you fire it, it charges mah 4294967296 lozars and fires its lazor. pew pew.

The only thing that makes Moonraker unique against Ag7 is the beam effect and the lack of needing to reload.  Behavior is almost the same, and we already know that constant firing is not an advantage in Goldeneye because of the invuln system.  Spam your 'raker all you like, a KF7 will own you for it.

Maybe there should be a server setting to change the Moonraker laser's needing ammo (so it won't be like a silver PP7 with no ammo needed). If not: MAKE SURE IT NEEDS AMMO. And don't forget to playtest like crazy to check the gameplay.

And then the two would be more identical than they already are...

Okay then, what do you suggest? Have an overpowered, unlimited-ammo weapon?

Just have it have a cool down of something, where can only spam for like 20 shots or so then have to wait for a little cool down, like a machine gun in other games. Just a idea.

Mayhaps give it a strained electronic noise when the gun is trying to operate when stressed. (overheated)

I like the idea of overheating, but what if it just fires in 3-shot bursts? And maybe instead of overheating (though it's completely feasible and plausible), there's a little battery meter that runs out every 3 shots and recharges? Worst meter: 3 small lights of some sort. Best meter: something that looks like it's from Star Trek.

A Silver PP7 can fire much faster then the laser. So it's not exactly the same weapon without the need of reload. Playtests will show if it's overpowered that way and if so, it will be adjusted one way or another.
