Just have it have a cool down of something, where can only spam for like 20 shots or so then have to wait for a little cool down, like a machine gun in other games. Just a idea.

Mayhaps give it a strained electronic noise when the gun is trying to operate when stressed. (overheated)

I like the idea of overheating, but what if it just fires in 3-shot bursts? And maybe instead of overheating (though it's completely feasible and plausible), there's a little battery meter that runs out every 3 shots and recharges? Worst meter: 3 small lights of some sort. Best meter: something that looks like it's from Star Trek.

A Silver PP7 can fire much faster then the laser. So it's not exactly the same weapon without the need of reload. Playtests will show if it's overpowered that way and if so, it will be adjusted one way or another.
