No servers - says must be running steam beta
« on: April 27, 2011, 12:03:40 am »

Hi, I've just installed the new 4.1 update and when i look for a server there is none, i deselect 'list maps' or something in the left bottom corner and it says I must have steam beta running. I have Steam running but what is steam beta? Also I've looked through other similar topics for an answer but with no luck.

When i go onto steam/view/servers i get a massive list of working servers. I select a server and get to the server menu in game and get told the same 'must be running steam beta'

Any help to get onto a server would be helpful

Thanks

I never heard of this before...
By selecting, You mean joining it? Because it should connect you automatically to it.
Alternatively... Try restarting your Steam client, Maybe a critical update you did not do, I don't know.

Costs nothing to try, Even if you probably already tried.

Did you pirate anything? Be honest here... screenshots are helpful too because I've never heard of this error before.

- Are you running Valve's official distribution of the Steam client?
- Are you using a legitimate Steam account?
- Have you purchased a Source engine game on your Steam account?
- Do you have a legitimate version of Source SDK Base 2007 installed in your Steam Tools?

If the answer to any of these is No then that's the reason you're getting this error.

If the answer to all of the above is Yes then:

- Is Goldeneye: Source installed in the default steamapps/sourcemods/gesource directory?
- Are you correctly using the filter settings in Steam's server browser?
- Could a firewall be blocking hl2.exe from connecting?

Ok, I googled 'steam beta must be running' and it seems like its all valve games that can be affected, I simply exited steam and logged in again now everything is working fine. I should have tried that from the start!  ::)

Now i can playing!  ;D

Thanks for everyone's help!
