[bug] Screen randomly shakes / rumbles on ge_bunker_classic
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:50:30 am »

Hey guys,

I've noticed that on almost every occasion that I've played ge_bunker_classic, at some stage during play, my screen will start shaking / rumbling... It's like being caught in an earthquake, and it either lasts until I die or until the round ends (though that only happened once). The only common links I can see each time this occurs is that I'm playing Deathmatch and using the Moonraker Laser - I can't say it's ever happened during a GunGame round or such, just DM. I'll be running around, killing and maiming and just out of nowhere everything starts shaking - makes it pretty hard to land some hits here and there. If you've ever played Left 4 Dead and encountered that glitch where the Tank chucks a rock on his own head and the physics oddity just makes your whole screen shake, then this is almost exactly like that.

It seems entirely random as to when or why this happens, but from now on I'll be keeping FRAPS running just so I can try and catch a video if it does continue to happen. I haven't modified anything related to the mod and this is a fresh install, and the server has no plugins or mods running that I know of (I believe it's the Aussie Hypernia server, as that's the only one that ever has players in it that I play on, but I will double check that). I haven't encountered this on any other map either, FYI, just bunker_classic.

No one else in the server reports the same behavior either. I know this isn't exactly the most helpful bug report, but it does keep happening and I figured it's worth mentioning while I try and capture some 'evidence' of what's going on...

When you shoot the big screen in the main room and the surrounding screens, those little explosions cause the quakes.

Just record demos. A lot less demanding on your system and hard drive.

And yes, explosions cause screen shake. Might be a glitch when many go off at once.

Hmm, I'll have to check that. At one stage I destroyed one of the monitors at close range and didn't see any kind of shaking at all... But all the times this has happened to me, I've been very far away from the control room itself, and I certainly didn't hear any sounds to indicate someone had destroyed those screens.

But it's something to look in to. It's posible someone used a mine or something and detonated a handful of those monitors at once. Might check that out tonight / tomorrow.

It's a known bug, destroying any of the wall monitors causes the map to shake due to Valve's code. I'm confident this will see a fix in the next patch.
