Opposing team name labels
« on: December 28, 2010, 10:08:14 pm »

Is there a way to show the opposing team's playername when you are pointing your crosshairs at them, to prevent doing team damage? I know that it shows players on your team, with health/armor percentage next to it... Would be cool if you could do something similar for the other team (without health or armor).

I know it goes against the original GoldenEye64, but when you're on a server with 16 people and friendly fire does damage, its tough to differentiate before shooting (especially with only a few player models to choose from). I have ended up making a lot of people angry because of this.

My friend suggested opposing teams would have different outfit colors, but this seems like too much of a hassle. A simple rollover with their username and the color of what team they were on would be sufficient... and maybe this is possible already, or a server switch, or something... any ideas?

Already done: Teammates will have their HP/AP status displayed when you target them.

Also, learn to recognize what different human beings look like.

This doesn't help when there are 9 James Bonds and 3 of them are on your team :p

I know that team members will show names and HP/Armor, I was inquiring if the opposing team would have their name, team name, anything... something that is visible.

The character models each have a team afiliation.  With free for all, you can pick any model. However, on teams you are restricted to the characters that correspond with the team you are assigned to (such as boris for janus and bond for MI6).  While i can see this becoming a problem as more character models are added and start looking alike at a distance, with the current selection they are very easy to tell apart.  However, for an easy way to tell your enemies from your allies, just look at the radar.  Your friends will be white while your opponents will be the standard green.

Ahhh, ok. I was unaware of this team affiliation restriction. Thanks for the heads up. That should make things easier.

Yeah teammates show there health and name, while enemies show nothing. So if it has a name, its a friendly.

Yeah, it makes sense after a few rounds. Its just harder for n00bs to pick up that the labels mean they're on your team. I guess with everything, theres a slight learning curve.

Haha, word. I think I am going to set server default to no-damage friendly fire... Seems like a fair trade off. That way people can spam shots and no one gets pissed.
