Set sv_lan 0, and you need to forward the port for the server through your NAT or firewall (default port 27015).

Also you must change map at least once using either the changelevel or ge_endmatch command.

Okay I am in the same boat, I went through the setup.  I did change the level.  I setup port forwarding.  I can go to favorites and try to add my IP address and see the name of my server. It doesn't let me add it or join it from the client? Do I need to use the client? How do I join it without it?

Look at the LAN tab if its a local machine hosting it.

Also were you trying to connect with Local IP(192.168.., or whatever) or your public IP (This)?

Try both.

I have tried both ways
outside IP 72.183.196.138
I can see my game when searching for it, but can't join it.  Do you start the client differently once the server is started? does it matter if you use a console password? I am trying to connect from the same computer I am hosting from.  Win XP 32 bit.

I tried to join your server ("red's setup"), but got dropped with message "Disconnect: Server uses different class tables." Are you sure you installed it right? That's the same error you get when you try to connect to a server running a different version of the game.

I will try to reinstall everything, I am running 4.1.  How do I know if all the files were downloaded properly with hlsupdatetool?   I am trying to follow the server install directions to the letter.  The server hotfix I am assuming I just need to extract the files and overwrite the files of the same name?
thank you for the quick responses.

There is no server hotfix so there is your problem. That is for Beta4.

I think the server setup might still say hotfix, if so, its old.

edit:

Yeah that server install tut. is all outdated, I'm rewriting it to current files. Sorry for confusion.

refer to http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/GE:S_v4.1_Server_Install from now on.

Don't worry, old beta4 one redirects to this new one anyway.

Can you try it now? I deleted everything and downloaded all the files again. So once I start the server I should connect to it from the client?
