Has anyone got this to run on Linux Server(s)
« on: July 15, 2010, 03:34:45 pm »

Hi i'm currenty trying my best to get this lovely mod working on a Linux Game server.

I have no issue installing and running TF2 CSS CSPRO or anything like that i have even got Gmod10 working.

I have tried every way to get gesource working but for some strange reason i can not.

It keeps complaining about core file size. I have downloaded time after time still getting this error.

Here is the Error

BFD: Warning: /home/gamefiles/goldeneye/orangebox/core is truncated: expected core file size >= 42676224, found: 12333056.

So what i am asking is has anyone with a Linux server got this running if so how and if possible a little install.sh script.

To the windows fans, before you say use windows I perfer Linux sorry but to use Windows Server is asking for trouble (virus's etc) my opion i free to express it too.

Thanks for the lovely mod GE Source team!

I'll update you with exact error after attempt 45!

You sure you used orangebox with -game switch when installing srcds? Valve screwed it up and 3rd party mods wont run with a TF2/DODS (and now CSS) base install.

i have tried , TF2 Install base, CSS install base OrangeBox and every other way but still get the same error.

But i used TF2 on Gmod10 to get it work and that ran a dream. I just can't for the life of me get GE Source to work.

Just hope i can get this working thanks for your replies so far.!

Kinky i am using the following spec.

AMD Opetron 280 x2 SSE2 SSE3 64Bit CPU
12GB Ram
250GB SATA Drive

All on a Ubuntu 9.10 (think its called karmac). I am using a Highly optimised Kernel i did myself with most of the cr*p removed from it driver wise but that is not the issue as the other source games work without issue.

Just because retail games work on Linux doesn't means mods will. They run on seperate base files. Suggest you try another mod that supports Linux to rule out GES because I can tell you straight that ges 4 works great on Karmic and 10.4

So if it works on Karmic 10.4 why not 9.10 ? i have all the latest files i have tried other mods like cspromod etc and they work without issues and they are now orangebox.

Its just gesource i can't get working.

If possible could you zip your core file just incase, 9.10 and 10.04 are the sameish and they all use the same gcc++ the same ia32libs.

Could it be the fact i am running a 64bit OS are you running 32bit?

I did try not so long ago to install ges on a gentoo 64 bit and I remember I had to emerge a special package for srcds to work, something I've never had to do with gentoo x86. So yeah could very well be that.

I dont remember the package name (otherwise I would of gave it to you in my above post :P) and since then I canned that server... Plus the package name may differ since you have a different dist.
