GoldenEye N64 version now playable online!!
« on: June 24, 2007, 09:07:38 pm »

I realize that the original game really don't stand up even close graphics and framerate wise to GE Source, but I wanted to pass this along to the GE community anyways.

For the first time ever, GoldenEye is playable online with the use of Mupen64K emulator. This has happened over the past couple of weeks. The once thought of impossible is now a reality. It runs glitch free even on 3 player games. 4 player games haven't been tried yet, but with everyone having good pc's it should be fine. If you want some info on trying this, let this thread be a starting point. Aside from that, feel free to PM me. Thanks!

I want to help you, but I need a bit more info on what is happening with the install. It is basically an unzip process. Of course if you are new to emulators, it can be very confusing.

This works GREAT, thank you. One slight problem though, when going into Goldeneye multiplayer the textures are farked up on every video plugin, but it plays smoothly.

Strange... I use glN64 and Goldneye works without any texture problems.

You need to be using Jabo's 3d8 1.6 likely. Follow that link which explains what you need to do to get it.

To get GoldenEye 007 (U) [!] to work:

1. You first need to download the Mupen emulator from his link. http://okaycreations.com/M64K_060.zip

2. Download Project 64 1.6, install it, and take the Project64.rdb from main directory, and put it in Mupen's main directory. http://www.pj64-emu.com/downloads/startdown/34/

3. Take Jabo_Direct3D8.dll from Project 64 1.6's plugin folder, and place it in Mupen's plugin folder.

4. In mupen select that video plugin (Jabo Direct3D8), and it will work flawlessly with kaillera's multiplayer. Make sure all players do the same steps.

Extra notes: You need to choose a rom directory for mupen to work correctly with kaillera. Go to Options, Settings, Directories, and add one with your roms. Then go to file, refresh rom list, and restart Mupen.

Couple additional notes. Make sure to copy your Project64.rdb over from Project 64 folder. From what I know, you need to all be running the exact same rom MD5 Checksum (check rom properties). See you online.

Here I recorded some gameplay footage of me and my friend from Norway playing. I am from the United States, and for it to play perfectly without desyncing with another PC across the globe is simply amazing. It took long enough (2007 =S), but Goldeneye is finally playable. http://youtube.com/watch?v=i1zGnM0oSQ4

Thank you for the links btw.

I  think for the most part, the server address that is provided in the emutalk link is where you will find games. It's taking a bit of time to get everyone up and running....but I would say tonight I'll be on!! I have yet to see 4 player, so I'm dying to see this and how it performs. I guess the important thing before judging how good it performs online, is making sure that everyone in the game has a PC that can actually handle Mupen. Online will suck simply because a player has a slow PC.

Another tip: When multiple players start up you will not have access to all of the levels, characters, and cheat codes. BUT... if all players download this save file http://www.pj64-emu.com/downloads/startdown/96/

Rename it GOLDENEYE 007 (U) [!].eep, and place it in your save folder then you will be able to increase your Goldeneye fun.

If only one person has this save file it will not work, all players need to have the same save file for goldeneye to function correctly on kaillera. If you already have a save from GE, just back it up and use this for online play with your friends, or strangers.

*PizzaBond* You need to take Jabo_Direct3D8.dll from Project 64's plugin folder and place it in your mupen plugin folder. Then take Project64.rdb from project64's folder, and place it in mupens folder. The very first folder.

To use the plugin you need to go to options - settings, and choose Jabo from there. Then go to kaillera, right click, refresh server list, join a server and hope someone starts up a goldeneye game.
