Glitch : Ammobox tower

Here's a video i made about a glitch in Goldeneye source ;D!!!
As i said, it's about a HUDGE ammobox tower.

Not really a glitch since cheats has to be enabled to spawn boxes, so it wont happen in a game unless there is an admin that feels like trying to crash his server. It is part of the engine.

Btw, takes about this many boxes to crash the West Coast GE:S server ;)

3 people spamming boxe's and 1 full library map ..lol, just some research for future reference :)

Think this is a good reason for upgrading the server to quadcore from dual..hahaha

It is interesting to see some of the physics of the massive number of boxes; the shot of the west cost server makes the library look like a weapons depot being ransacked after having been taken over by force.

I would expect the amount of ram is probably the limiting factor not the processor. It might be able to be increased if the amount of memory that is allocated can be configured in a config or map file; I do not know how steam manages memory though, adding more physical ram is likely not increase how much gets allocated to the process (server application) running.

That surprises me, I would have expected that their wouldn't have been that much of a drag on processing since most of the tests would have resulted in no change in position ( which should avoided work ). usually if else comparisons are fast even though you would need to check against the volume of the box, so it would be a few per box. It may be that every object has to compare to every other object in the environment making it at least a O(n^2) algorithm of how many comparisons must be done per the main run loop, along with another a O(n) algorithm calculations done on every object during the main run loop. I may be discounting that the collision could run some code affecting every box contacting another box. I still would have expected performance to degrade long before crashing.

It would be compounded if it has to relay all positions to the clients, not just changes in position.

Yea, i found that prop spawn just tend to use cpu power, and no memory. Plus, when there's too much props, source act funny... physics management is weird. I think it's coz ammo box spawned this way are prop_physic, and it needs cpu power at each frame time when interacted with.

Wow! You guys are just so crazy XD !!! I'm still spawning ammo box whit my brother and my friend in a tower of cradle. Eventually, the server crash, but that's soooo funny XD !!!

Guys, can i ask you few things? What's the name of thoses props ?

- Body armor.
- Toilet in facility
- Computer
- Melon
- Banana

Extract the banana model from the GCF, and put it in your ges folder :)
