Hey guys,

Last time I posted I informed you all about the upcoming CSS game mode. Since then, I have been searching and sifting through the sdk, seeing what interesting things I can derive from it.

I have just figured out how to add dynamic shadows, cinematic physics and motion blur to any mod or HL2, HL2:EP1.

Originally I found that mounting appid 420 would only result in a crash, but after a bit of sifting, I finally got a gameinfo that would result in the mod or game using the effects of hl2:ep2. Not only this, but you can also launch episode 2 maps in the mod. This means, you can create a map with the cinematic physics and it will work in game.

To do this, simply go to the folder and edit (or create if it doesn't exist) a gameinfo.txt

"GameInfo"
{
   game       "<STEAM GAME NAME>"
   title       "<INGAME TITLE>"
   title2      "<INGAME SUBTITLE>"

   type      singleplayer_only

   FileSystem
   {
      SteamAppId            420
      ToolsAppId            211
      SearchPaths
      {
         Game            |gameinfo_path|.
         Game            ep2
         Game            episodic
         Game            hl2
      }
   }
}

I hope you guys enjoy this and it helps you all out if you're making a mod or if you just want to play an updated version of HL2 or HL2:EP2 or any mod which has been developed.

tl;dr Any source game with dynamic shadows, cinematic physics and motion blur.

How is the Impact on the Performance, when you change these things?

Anyway, do i need the latest Update of Steam/SDK or something else?

Motion Blur, used appropriately, rocks hard and long.

Portal: Not appropriate, rather annoying.
Team Fortress 2: Appropriate, especially if you normally see a bit of tearing when you flick turn.

The answer is :

"Yes these changes will tax your system more"

So if you barely run source games smooth, i would say you are ruled out of these features.

Ok so this works for the Goldeneye Mod right? and seeing as this isnt single player in the config settings i see it says multiplayer only? do we need to change that.. also once i have created this file and copied and pasted those settings is there anything else needs to be done?

This will not work with the current build of goldeneye source. If you launch with the ep2 engine you will only face errors in the game and the game will not working as it is supposed to be. Yes you will be running the new engine but weapons and hud and the player selection system will not work and you will not be able to play with friends because you wont be able to do much in game.
