Is there a way to configure the auto disconnect?
« on: April 14, 2013, 05:02:32 pm »

Hi guys, I just recently installed GE Source about last week and the first day it worked great with everyone but I ran into an issue yesterday. My friend doesnt have the strongest internet connection its around 2MB so he gets disconnected from any server we make or join. One server we tried had a limit of 150ping and he would hover between 140-155 so he would be kicked. However when I made my own sever he was only 90 ping to me so the 150 ping limit shouldnt apply here right? Am I missing something how do you configure the server ping limit?

Also while I'm here asking questions, I was only able to configure special options like VAC cheating disabled or enabled one time, that extra menu when I set up a server never shows up and I remember it had many more options not just the VAC thing. It just skips directly to ingame loading the map after I configure the basic options. How do I access the advanced server creation options again?

The server ping limit is a Sourcemod plugin.

Hmm....

is it really a kick because of ping or a disconnect because of a lost connection? (usual with 30 seconds countdown in the top right corner)

In case 2 i'd blame his connection which might be not only slow (ah well... i have only 2mbit@home too) but also unstable.

If he's running on WLAN, he should use a wire connection instead for testing purpose.
Often a bad signal strength and/or interferences causing packages to fail.
Not tragic when browsing the web, but a huge issue for online gaming.

As for beeing kicked at a ping of 150:
If at all, only a few GES servers kicking players with high ping, so if this happens on all servers, the issue has to be something else.

Please ask him to provide a screenshot with the message he's getting when he's been disconnected.

Is your friend VAC banned or are you using hacks? I ask because you asked about VAC

The old create server menu had less options than the current one, not sure what you mean.

Theres no way for him to be banned beforehand because it was his first time installing the game. Anyways, I do believe hes on a WLAN but running a cable through the house is probably not an option. Theres a living room / kitchen and another room between his room and the router. Do you think a signal booster like a repeater would work?

I only asked about VAC because it was an option in a secondary menu which had more advanced options, I was only able to access this menu what seems like one time and then never again so it seems pretty peculiar to me.

I've never seen a secondary menu in GE:S pertaining to VAC.  Are talking about starting a server with the create a server feature within GE:S or some other program?
