Title: Beta 4 Translations needed
Post by: Mark [lodle] on December 14, 2009, 07:48:08 pm
Hey guys,

Well its that time again to start translating the new stuff for beta 4. This will be done on the wiki (http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/Category:Translations) like last time so i have updated the English version (http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php?title=Gesource_english) all ready and the other version need to be edited.

You can check out whats changed on this page: http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php?title=Gesource_english&diff=2518&oldid=2124

Allright. I'll do the german version.

I found some little issues on the english version.

The number of kills necessary for earning "Licence to Grill" "Man on the Moon" and "From Russia with Love" are missing.

The description of "Just a Fleshwound" seems incomplete to me.

"Win a knife duel (both players holding knives and attacking each other)"

Afaik, you have to take knife demage before killing the other player.

Suggestion:
"Win a knife duel but be hit with the enemy's knife at least once"

I think we don't need the line in (), since "knife duel" allready means both combatants have to use a knife.

Quote
"The enemy has stolen your intelligence! You must break into the enemy's stronghold and take your intelligence back to your base! Be forewarned, your intelligence must be back in it's original place before you can capture the enemy's.

Sound strange. and IMO it means the enemy has both yours and his intelligence and you have to get your's back first before going back again to capture his.

Should be like:
"The enemy is trying to steal your intelligence! You must break into the enemy's stronghold and take his intelligence. Bring it back to your base but be forewarned, your intelligence must be in it's original place before you can capture the enemy's."
or:
"The enemy has stolen your intelligence, you've stolen his! You must break into the enemy's stronghold and take your intelligence back to your base! Be forewarned, the enemy will try to get back his intelligence, too. Capturing will only work if both, the enemy's and your intelligence are on your side."

Also:
Quote
As a player you get the Golden Gun and try to kill the Baron before he kills you.
Afaik, you don't start with the AuG and only one player will get it.
Suggestion:
"As a player you have to get the Golden Gun and try to kill the Baron before he kills you. Also be aware of the other players when holding the Golden Gun, they might try to get their hands on it."

If you guys are gonna let me do it the Portuguese translation, then it's going to be Portuguese from Portugal (just as it is in Steam and any other Steam game) and not Portuguese from Brazil (like it is in the current beta). Nothing against the Portuguese from Brazil; it's just a question of coherence.

I'm saying this because my B3.1 translation got raped a few days after being submitted...

@kraid    corrected a few mistakes in the german version, otherwise in good condition, I think.  ;)

Also make sure the right version will be added to the game.
For beta 3.1.4 somehow an older german version was added
so a lot of the award names got cut off and some other minor
things were wrong.

Maybe not a bad idea to restrict the editing of the translation to admins.
At least the ones we have someone on the team who's speaking this as his native Language.

Regular users can still suggest translations here on the board, but we should add them on our own.

@cy: thanks. Damn how could i miss out to fully translate the Scaramanga's Pride description.

The reason this would have happened is because we have Fonfa who lives in Brazil.  May I suggest that you tag it with Portuguese - Euro  and a second one can be made for NA.

It doesnt work that way. Only can have lang files for the same lang in steam. Thus only one version can exist and it should be the same as the steam one.

I will update the translation english file and post here when I implement the remaining achievements (give me a day)

Also, to the portugese stuff, we can offer various versions of translations on the website while still only having the steam ones shipped with the mod. Those that want the alternate translations can copy and paste the stuff on the wiki into the spanish or portugese file at their own will.

Looking at the English version, the left column is the code part, the right column is the one with the texts that need translation.

Total edit: Updated half of the page to match the appearntly changed English version, but now it matches for the first 50%. Also changed a lot of total context fails and changed English only terms like *KIA* with the official Dutch terms.

More editting to come ;)

Oh and I see everyone can edit the Wiki without rights management (like Wikipedia has today for the most part).

Can you give us a cetain deadline for when the translations need to be done? Or at least two days before the deadline give us a yell?

I'm a bit busy right now with multiple jobs and school and whatnot and those scarce hours of spare time I need to fill with recreational stuff, so...

What about lolcats translation?

No seriously, stick to the most vital translations, we're limited anyway to the languages supported by valve.

As for me, I prefer the english version, because Goldeneye64 has never been localized here in europe, it's just true to the original.

However, most ppl are able to understand english at least on a level to be able to play this game.
The ones who don't are either to young to play games like this or much to old and won't play games at all. So the group of ppl who truely benefit from translation is more or less small.

I don't wanna say, do no translations at all, but i think we should stick to the major languages and focus translation on things like achivement descriptions and gameplay help.
Who cares if the scoreboard say kills, this is a term eveyone knows.

Of course for people that played GE007, GE:S doesn't need to be English, but for newcommers it could be great.

For example: The first time I played GE007 it took me a year in order to finnish the single player. Not because it was hard for me to do, but because I didn't know what the fsck I had to do. After reading the objectives over and over and over I could sometimes get a clue about what to do, but it took me soooooooooo long to figure it out.

So for the newbies it would be great to have translations. I know I would have wanted it when I played GE007 back in the day for the first time...

More like:

Jesus this translation is killing me (started from scratch with the English one)...

I am currently at GES_GP_TOURNAMENTDM_HELP and finnishing the last few remaining lines tomorrow...

It's on my HDD till then... It's a perfect (TM) translation so it takes some time, I guess...

OK... DONE!!!

http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/Gesource_dutch

I've taken the Beta 4 English Translation FIle yesterday night and did a complete translation from scratch because the Dutch translation Wiki page was a total mess and if I would fix everything on the way (missing this, missaligned that) it would have taken a lot longer for me to finnish it.

It is 100% done and 100% epic.

I hope it can still be included with Beta 4 and if not, well than we all have to wait for the Beta 4 patch :P

Hey thanks for letting us know ;)

Will do a check on the Dutch translation right now. I saw some spelling errors and female scientist and general Ourumov wasn't translated.

PS: I thought *SPEC* meant *Spectator* and translated it, but is that a part that should not be translated?

That should be left shortened. So if you do translate, abbreviate the translation.

Spectator = Toeschouwer
I translated *SPEC* to *TOESCH*

Is that short enough?
Title: Re: Beta 4 Translations needed
Post by: Mangley on February 14, 2010, 04:09:19 am
Probably, however it needs to make sense.

'Spec' is used because it's a commonly used abreviation for Spectator in games, it's also used outside of games as an abreviation for Specification.

So if Toesch isn't used as an abreviation in Dutch by anyone then maybe it's best you use something like KIJKER (viewer).

So if Toesch isn't used as an abreviation in Dutch by anyone then maybe it's best you use something like KIJKER (viewer).
It is used as an abreviation by probably the most intelectual newspaper 'de Volkskrant' in the Netherlands for football (soccer): http://www.volkskrant.nl/archief_gratis/article553545.ece/Eerste_divisie

Just Ctrl+F "toesch".

Kijker is, to my knowlegde, not ever used. What I don't like about the word kijker is that it feels like the English word 'looker' to me and it is not a 1 on 1 translation. It's more like replacing it with something similar. I did however did this kind of thing with translating the achievements in order for them to still make sence, where ever I could and when even that wasn't possible I just put the English achievement between ' '. Like Sharpshootah and titles from Bond movies. A view to a kill was replaced by the Dutch translation of "Killing with a vision", where vision also means something like a plan, insight, idea of how to execute a plan the right way...

Portuguese translation is done. Now, before someone goes around complaining I used a c before the t, bear in mind that I translated to Portuguese from Portugal. Keep that in mind when complaining.

I may go through it again later today but I think it is fine the way it is. Obviously, a few things weren't translated because a) they do not have a coherent translation or b) there is no logic in translating them.

Title: Re: Beta 4 Translations needed
Post by: kraid on February 23, 2010, 03:31:44 am
I think this could cause a huge inconsistence because not everything will be translated at once.
So the english version will be the most complete one while other languages might lack content or have completly wrong or fucked up stuff.
So everyone will use the english version anyway and TBH, 99% of the ppl here are able to understand and write english, the rest is either to young or not willing to learn another language.

As for me, Videogames were a major factor in learning new english vocabular since back in the 1990-2000 there were not many videogames, especially on consoles like N64, which had a german translation.

Hope that for the next version more stuff can be translated (Capture the Key stuff, the profiles...)

Are you guys going to update the translation in game ? Because there is still some text in English in GES B4 while it's supposed to be French.

Exemple : Character description is in English.

I am working on an alternate way to pass localization hints. Right now Valve's system doesn't support multi-input localization. It's all or nothing. As in:

"Capture The Key: #GES_TEST Is Cool"

will not translate to anything when passed through the localization filter. It has to be in the form:

"#GES_TEST"

ONLY

Hey everybody. It's that time again! We need translations done for v4.1!!

Here is the diff between the english files: http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php?title=Gesource_english&diff=3624&oldid=3168

I suggest copying the stuff that was modified over and then translating it. I am not going to copy/paste the diff to each language myself. Post here when you finish a language. Thanks guys!

German translation is done - but I guess it'd be better if Kraid and Cy would have look at it, too. Three pairs of eyes are seeing more than just one.
In case you chose to include the translators into the credits again please watch out for that 'c' in my nickname - it should be in lowercase, thanks. ;-)

Hello there!
I just read this thread and I think I might find myself useful for the french version.
I could work on this up to two hours a day, If you guys allow me to do it, What I must do is to copy the whole "Current revision" down the link Killermonkey posted and translate it into a word document and that's it?

Thanks for the information.

There's a wiki where the language files are kept and being compiled from - anyone can contribute as far as I know.
You need to create an account for it first, though.

http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/Category:Translations

Be sure to check to only insert missing (i.e. new) things once and keep the order in which stuff is listed. (Makes it easier to find them again if another edit is needed) Furthermore I think it would be good if you talked to other translators for your chosen language.

Thanks for the info.
I have registered on the wiki, And will wait for other translators for further notice.
Although, If there are errors in the current one, Is it possible for me to edit them?
Thanks for the replies, Much appreciated.

You can edit right away - I just meant it's better to have communication between several translators, because each translator might have other linguistic preferences and use other words or occasionally misunderstand things from the source version. Also there might be some restrictions that apply for example for the length of the award names or such, so a non-literal translation is sometimes better.
Look out for words that are already translated in other parts and try to keep their translation consistent.

The French version hasn't been worked on since February, so you're the first to edit it for Beta 4.1 anyway.

It was done by X-tra (http://forums.goldeneyesource.net/index.php?action=profile;u=1948) and major (http://forums.goldeneyesource.net/index.php?action=profile;u=530) for the most part.

EDIT: I almost forgot the most important part - the wiki keeps track of what you're doing and you can always go back to an older version, so don't be afraid to change something

FINAL CALL FOR v4.1 TRANSLATIONS!

http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php?title=Gesource_english&diff=3726&oldid=3624

I made a couple changes, additions, and the like to the localization file in our final testing stages. Feel free to translate. You have ~2 weeks (THIS IS NOT A RELEASE TIMELINE).

I suppose, since my changes to the english version had been reverted, "For England, Alec" now only counts the timed mines kills, as said in the description.

I updated the german version accordingly. (and added the new stuff and fixed old translations, while I was at it)
Hopefully, Kraid and Cy will take a look, too.

Post by: WNx Coil on December 07, 2010, 10:42:36 am
I'm reading it. Well I don't know exactly how to modify on the wiki so i'll post directly here :

First - I write why some parts need to be changed
Secondly - I'll put it directly in the commands. TO THE DEV TEAM : MAKE SOME TESTS AND GIVE YOUR ADVICE BEFORE THE UPDATE !

"GE_WorldKill"         "Environement"
it's "Environnement" : one N is missing

"GE_KB_Misc"      "Autre"
change "Autre" to "Divers"

"GE_Hint_GameplayHelp"   "Pesez sur %+cl_ge_gameplay_help% pour obtenir de l'aide sur le mode de jeu actuel."
"GE_Hint_WeaponSet"   "Pesez sur %+cl_ge_weaponset_list% pour voir le set d'armes actuel."
It's not "Pesez sur" but "Pressez"

"GES_Death_Headshot"      "^7%s1^1 a tué ^8%s2^1 avec %s3^9%s4^1 Headshot"
Remplace "Headshot" by " d'une balle dans la tète"
in french the message appears like : "Coil a tué Bob avec Shotgun Headshot" but it would be better if it appears like "Coil a tué Bob avec Shotgun d'une balle dans la tète"
it's longer but better for french translation.

"GE_AWARD_DEADLY"      "Le plus meurtrié"
not "Meutrié" but "Meutrier". french grammar fail lol......

"GE_AWARD_SHORTINNINGS"      "Courte vies"
Change "Courte" by "Courtes". One S is missing.

"GES_SHARPSHOOTAH_DESC"      "Tuez votre adversaire avec le Sniper à plus de 170 pieds"
170 feets are approximatively equal to 52 meters (51.8 etc etc mathematic fail... XD). You can replace "170 pieds" to "50 metres" but it's not a real problem

"GES_ONE_WITH_BULLET_DESC"   "obtenez les distinctions Le plus meurtrié et Tireur d'élite à la fin d'une manche"
"GES_INVINCIBLE_DESC"      "Jouez en tant que Boris et obtenez les distinctions Le plus meurtrié et Les plus longues vies à la fin d'une manche"

Same problem with "Meutrié", change it to "Meutrier"

"GES_PP7_LEVEL1_NAME"      "PKing Soup (Agent)"
"PKing Soup" is a bit difficult to translate. I need you to explain : do you mean play with the PPK is like making a soup of dead players ? If I well understand the meaning of this english expression I would be able to translate in french

"GES_SNIPERRIFLE_LEVEL1_NAME"   "A View To A Kill (Agent)"
The James Bond movie "A view to a Kill" is called "Dangereusement vôtre" in France (Vôtre or Votre, the accent over the O doesn't matter) Why don't you put the french title ?

"GES_GP_LALD_HELP"      "Un joueur est choisi au hasard pour être le Baron à chaques tours. Si vous êtres le Baron........."
Please, change "êtres" to "êtes" ...

"GES_GP_CAPTUREKEY_HELP"   "L'ennemi a vos documents! Vous devez capturez la clé"
Change "capturez" to "capturer"

"GES_GP_MWGG_DROPPED"      "^y%s1 ^ya laissé tombé le Golden Gun !"
replace "tombé" by "tomber"

Corrections :

"GE_WorldKill"         "Environnement"

"GE_KB_Misc"      "Divers"

"GE_Hint_GameplayHelp"   "Pressez  %+cl_ge_gameplay_help% pour obtenir de l'aide sur le mode de jeu actuel."
"GE_Hint_WeaponSet"   "Pressez  %+cl_ge_weaponset_list% pour voir le set d'armes actuel."

"GES_Death_Headshot"      "^7%s1^1 a tué ^8%s2^1 avec %s3^9%s4^1 d'une balle dans la tète"

"GE_AWARD_DEADLY"      "Le plus meurtrier"

"GE_AWARD_SHORTINNINGS"      "Courtes vies"

"GES_GP_CAPTUREKEY_HELP"   "L'ennemi a vos documents! Vous devez capturer la clé"

"GES_GP_MWGG_DROPPED"      "^y%s1 ^y a laissé tomber le Golden Gun !"

It's a play on words of a real type of soup: peking soup

I'll add it to the wiki. Don't think its to late, but needs to be documented correctly anyway.

Well it's ok, in french we can say : Soupe Pékin (the same as the english version) but it could be translated like that : "Soupe PKnoise" . the sense is the same, but i'm not sure the play of word would be understood. OMG those french are boring :D (joking)
Title: Re: Beta 4 Translations needed

"Soupe PKinoise" is the best translation I can do in order to keep the play of words.

Those are the changes I made.

http://davelm.com/gesource/images/hl2%202010-12-07%2015-32-14-72.jpg

That is how it looks. Now I run in English normally, so not sure if that looks correct.

Ah niiiice
It looks great ! just replace the ( symbol between "un" and the name of the weapon by a space.

Just last point about the "dangereusement vôtre" you only modify the line for level 1 (agent) message.
the level 2 and 3 's messages are still the ancient one "vue sur la mort".

"GES_SNIPERRIFLE_LEVEL2_NAME"   "Vue sur la mort (Secret Agent)"
"GES_SNIPERRIFLE_LEVEL3_NAME"   "Vue sur la mort (00 Agent)"

to

"GES_SNIPERRIFLE_LEVEL2_NAME"   "Dangereusement vôtre (Secret Agent)"
"GES_SNIPERRIFLE_LEVEL3_NAME"   "Dangereusement vôtre (00 Agent)"
can you modify it ? This would be all :D

Wait, what is there to translate? You just set two empty strings for hide achievements and a new menu point named Intro video - which- I guess - is in most languages just intro video ~ or some akward and long word like "Eröffnungsvideo" (oO).

Also I can't think of a good word for "Credits" in the menu - so please, if anyone knows better wordings, feel free ~

What does it need to be changed in the intro video ?

"GameUI_Achievement_Awarded" "Achievement Earned"
Replace it by :
"GameUI_Achievement_Awarded" "Succès obtenu(s)"

and :

"GameUI_Achievement_Awarded"   "Achievement Earned"
"GameUI_Achievement_Progress"   "Achievement Progress"
"GameUI_Achievement_Unlocked"   "Achievement Unlocked"

Change those ones to :

"GameUI_Achievement_Awarded"   "Succès obtenu(s)"
"GameUI_Achievement_Progress"   "Succès en cours"
"GameUI_Achievement_Unlocked"   "Succès débloqués"

This is french version of the wiki page you show. If you need more translations, I'm back at home in 9 or 10 hours (6 pm to me).

I need the character descriptions to be translated.
And an other part of the game : when you just enter a server you have a page on your screen, just before to chose your character, in which it's writtent : game mod, weapon set, etc etc etc. The texts are still in english and were not on the wiki. Can you send me the links ? I'll translate it when i'll be back.

I assume they're in some way hardcoded as of now - since every other file is read from the wiki. So as soon as they're available as a wiki page (or on another wiki page) I'd also translate them into German.

Yah I guess just the Intro Video translation. Thought you guys might care :-P

That wouldn't be practical because we'd have to split up the video into two parts to save space (text followed by intro) and have a bunch of 10 MB .bik files for each language and select the correct one based on the user's language. It wouldn't be that much work at all, but I don't see the point of doing it.

The character files are not part of the translatable data, yet. Next release will feature a new character setup to accomodate more characters, etc. etc.

Long story short, you cannot translate the character files in the traditional manner. You are more than welcome to take the files from gesource/scripts/characters/*.txt and translate those for your own use and distribution. We do not endorse this though.
Title: Re: Beta 4 Translations needed
Post by: VGF on December 11, 2010, 09:47:24 am
There is a possible way, and that is making a duplicate of those files in gesource_*your language*, then doing the edit. That might work for now.

Oh, and for the GE:S Team... You guys forgot to edit the options of the Radar position, in the cfg/user_default.scr. I will also be doing today some fixes to the Spanish translation for the intro movie window.

Mmh translations don't work :/
I went to the gesource/resource and the gesource_french file was missing. So I copy the lines of this page :
http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/Gesource_french

and put the file i called gesource_french in the resource folder. It still doesn't work...
and this is wat I have in the console :

Ignoring non-unicode close caption file c:\program files\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\gesource\resource\gesource_french.txt
Both ConVars must be marked FCVAR_REPLICATED for linkage to work (r_VehicleViewDampen)
ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "resource/mp3player_french.txt".

What is missing exactly ?

(it doesn't matter if my game is in english lol but more and more frenchies are coming on the game, so.... ;) )

EDIT :
Ok I did the same thing for the mp3player_french file (which was missing too)

this is what i have now in the console :

Ignoring non-unicode close caption file c:\program files\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\gesource\resource\gesource_french.txt
Both ConVars must be marked FCVAR_REPLICATED for linkage to work (r_VehicleViewDampen)

You have to save the file as unicode encoding. The easiest way to do that is to open the english one, select all (Ctrl + A) then paste the french file into that. Then SAVE AS gesource_french.txt

I have no idea why the french translation didn't make it in the release. This disturbs me :(
