Very aesthetically pleasing.
Awesome renditions of the maps.
Alas, shitty weapon balance, thus far.
ZMG, guys.... omg....

ZMG = epic death dealer

That's because it has to go against Death himself: http://forums.goldeneyesource.com/index.php/topic,834.0.html

Ugh... I have an idea. Instead of calling this Goldeneye:Source Beta 1, we call it Goldeneye: ZMG Edition. Because that's essentially the only weapon being used. I mean, I know this is a beta, but wasn't it so completely and utterly apparent that this thing was irrationally overpowered before you made this public? I know all the weapons haven't been put in, but still, this beta is rendered worthless. Why would I want to play a game that essentially has one gun? I'm assuming it's been like this for awhile... I'm more confused as to why you haven't made a little tiny patch that lowers it's damage or removes it or SOMETHING. This is making me want to uninstall.... I can't even test-play this god damn beta fully, because it's just a zmg orgy. I spawn, 20 zmg bullets hit my head from a hundred fucking feet away. That is what this version is. :(
When is the next patch being released? I'd like a playable version...

welcome to the forums, har har

Don't sugercoat it, tell us how you really feel! :P

it's a shame you missed the awesomeness that was the alpha.

yep same here, sit tight and we will get one out soon, if you help us find some more programmers you'll get it even faster.
-
Heh. I detonate 3 remote mines on a corridor wall while some is one foot from them... he lives and shoots me in the face a million times in .034 seconds with the zmg... :(
I think I'm just gonna wait for a more refined version. Good job on the awesome models and maps you guys have so far.
-
seriously though, if the community was to help us hunt out programmers, we would be eternally grateful. we are hurtin' for certain on code after lodle's departure
-
I'll ask around (don't know any programmers myself, but perhaps there are some on other mod forums I frequent that don't know of this mod yet. Meh, best I can do.)
I'd really like to see this done. What I'd REALLY like to see is the GE single player in source. :D That would be epic. Alas, it is a pipe dream ....at the moment. ;)
-
the sooner we get multiplayer done, the sooner we might be able to work on single player :D
having most of the maps already done from MP would make SP go much faster
-
lol programmers, so silly.

What's funny?
I informed the forums of http://www.specialistsmod.net/, which is an ingenious HL1 mod, that is so much more brilliant and well made than this poor excuse for a beta. ;D
I don't want to seem like an asshole, but this is the worst beta I have ever played in my 15 years of avid gaming. Which is such a shame, considering what it's based off of, and the sheer amount of time you had.

Drama queen ::)

Drama queen ::)
(I'm starting to like you guys already.) :)
Perhaps... perhaps not. :D
Still, you must admit, there is no excuse for the amount of bugs you have, and the ridiculous weapon balance/general flow of the game. This is considering the amount of time you have had to work on this project. (What has it been exactly? Two years? 1.5 years?)
Or perhaps I am just impatient and quick to judge because this is suppose to be Goldeneye and my initial expectations were set too high.

What's funny?
Programmers.
-
Programmers.
Programmers? Should I have said "one who codes games"? I still don't understand the humor. Is my e-jargon incorrect/outdated? Am I the subject of some inside joke? Please clarify...
-
Programmers are funny, like clowns.
-
When exactly did your brain cease to function? Or has it yet to function? J/k. ;)
Seriously though, stop smearing the GE name with shit. Learn to code or find some decent coders. Not that I'm the boss of what you guys are doing, for no pay, out of the passion you have for a very influential game, I'm just saying.... and I did all I could, which is pathetically limited, but none the less. I'd hate to see the work you guys have done so far turn out for the worse.... and then die.

When Lodle was made the senior programmer.
Also, I feel like I've done everything that's easy for me to do, to help this mod. Unfortunately, it was released ZOMG.
-
What the hell does that mean?
-
I don't really see what the point of this discussion is. Look, we have a ton of artists who kick ass. As you've noticed, and commented on, this mod looks awesome. But the fact is we are crippled by a lack of programmers. Lodle has done an awesome job, but he can't work on it anymore. And believe me, he kicked major ass when he had the time to code.
Badmouthing us isn't going to help anything. Programming and art are two completely different things, and all the wishing in the world isn't going to change that. It takes a certain mindset to code, and some serious training/schooling to become a competent programmer. So what that means is none of the current team can do anything to change the gameplay or bugs until we bring another programmer onboard.
So in conclusion, learn to code, help us find a programmer, or stop bitching. We don't like it any more than you do.

Goldeneye: ZMG edition
Sorry but I just had to post that
-
If i get a couple of hours free this week i might release a patch for the beta which fixes the server crash bug and invun timer as well.
-
I'm not trying to badmouth you. I'm just a straight shooter (aka an asshole), I also tend to over do it at times, which makes it seem like I'm a fucking hard ass. I will undoubtedly do it in this post. But I am generally intelligent, something that is rare in this day and age, although I might misunderstand the exact complexities that making a great game mod entails.... bear with me ... Graphics= leet haxorz!, code= pathetic shit pile... tell me, what exactly have you done to remedy this? Is there anything specific I could do? Surely, it isn't THAT hard to find a halfway talented coder for a mod of an insanely prestigious title... surely, some one talented out there, in this cruel mud ball consisting of 6 billion+ people, is dying to work on something like this... perhaps you aren't trying hard enough? :D
I've never been a part of a mod team, so I have no fucking clue how hard it is :)... I wish you guys the best, and hope this mod flourishes.
-

You'd be surprised.
-
This is starting to irk me.
-
Now you've done it. Loafie is irked!
-
HERE COMES THE WHIP SUCKA.
-
k let me explain this so the whole deal can be put into perspective.
when making games teams are basically split into 3 departments. Art, Design, and Programing
we have a lot of artists, the vast majority of them are really good, and we even have a handful of professional artists on the team as well. so our mod looks really good, and has a really good flow of art work almost constantly because of so many people constantly working. if theres a problem with one member of the art staff, odds are some one else can pick up the slack, or can take over their task if need be.
everyone on the team is a designer. they all have a say as to the direction of where the game is headed, and can toss their ideas into the hat to see what everyone thinks might be a cool new game play feature, or if something needs to be tweaked to alter and balance something. we have the original game, sort of as a template and design document so the team has a unified vision of what the final game is going to be like.
for programing, we have had 3... 3 total in 3 years of development. all 3 of them have been rockstars when it comes to code as well. but the problem with coders is that, to be a good programer isnt like being a good artist. its difficult to train someone who only has basic knowledge. so getting new talent, and training them from the ground up is not really an option.
finding someone who knows how to code isn't that tough, we have quite a few artists on the team who know various coding languages. but non of them are at the level of being able to completely write the code for the entire mod.
to find a good programmer is hard
to find a good programmer, who can program for games is REALLY hard.
to find a good programmer, who is familiar with the source engine, and isn't already working on their own mod, AND is going to work for free... well there were about 3 of them in the past 3 years... and we got them.
we need a coders that are either at a really high level in college, or are already working professionals. and if they are that good already they should be getting paid for their work, but since we have no money, its almost impossible to get people that good to work for free.
so when we have one of our programmers have something happen in their personal lives, like they get a job, are in finals for college, or some other personal issue comes up, things slow down on the code side of the mod, and its really difficult to keep it moving. that doesn't even include things like the multi fire bug which valve screwed us with that also slow down the mods development. balancing for the beta wasn't the main priority, it was getting new content in.
our programmers have tried really hard and squeezed GES into any free time they have had for years. Scott coded on Xmas eve....twice. give our programmers a break they are doing this in their free time for you, with out pay, and often without thanks.
if you know a way to get us a handful of talented programmers, willing to work for free, let me know
-
What the hell does that mean?
That's when I lost my mind.
EDIT:
Spider, that should be a sticky somewhere.
-
AND BY THE WHIP I MEAN JONATHAN.
-
Another thing to mention is that GES is a total conversion. Which means entire sections of the code need to be redone from scratch, its not like a few tweaks here and there. Since GES is so stylized, it also adds a level of difficulty. The health system is one example. You can't just add in a different graphic. Lodle had to pretty much write that from scratch from what I understand.
And to reinforce that game programming is different from other types, my buddy just graduated for Seattle University and was hired at a biotech company before he even graduated. I showed him our programmer trials just out of curiosity, and he didn't know how to do them because his focus isn't on game programming.
