just one small question... how the heck do i make a ladder or use the clipping tool on hammer???
-
NEVER use the clipping (aka carve) tool. Trust me it is evil and will fuck your maps up. Slice tool is a much better option. Select it (second bottom tool i think) draw two spots on the item you want to slice then hit enter. The red bit will be deleted and the white kept. By clicking the tool icon again it will change between keep right and del left, keep left and del right and keep both. Very easy to use.
Ladders are easy. Make a brush of what you want to be a ladder. Hit ctr + t then select func_ladder. Done. :P
Edit: I think your talking about the slice tool.

i dont even understand why they put that BS tool in in the first place

I used it today to make a door a very specific shape. Took two seconds.

There's times and places where the clipping tool can come in handy... You just have to be extremely careful with it, and know how to spot when it causes errors.
-
What errors does it do? I rarely use it, but when I do, all it does is crate a few unnecessary brushes (I did it on a brick though).

good luck with the carve tool, if you have triggers or any hidden brushes it will still carve through them still. Dont use it, learn to use the vertex tool
