Title: GoldenEye 64 Game Guide Scanned
Post by: killermonkey on June 04, 2016, 07:52:25 pm
Hey everyone, I was cleaning out my bookcase and found this little gem hiding in there. The Prima GoldenEye 64 game guide. I couldn't resist scanning it in so that everyone could use it when recreating classic levels.

Also, if we ever get around to implementing some form of single player, this will be a great way to guide our mission sets!

It's funny how simple Surface is, just a big open blob with a few shacks strewn about. In retrospect, I remember getting lost in Surface the first couple times, and thinking "dang this map is so huge and complex", when in reality I guess I was just getting turned around from all the fog.

Similarly, Statue Park. It always (originally) felt big and open to me like Surface, but in reality it's pretty much just a linear zig zag. They sure knew how to take some fairly basic map designs and make them atmospherically interesting .

Thanks for sharing, KM!

Yeah i wish that Statue and Cradle had remained in the original N64 Game as Multiplayer maps
just a shame that the lag was so bad that they had to take it out :(

I love how some of the information in this book is inaccurate. Makes you think this was written during a functioning beta and then Rareware changed some stuff right before releasing the game.
Thanks for sharing KM! Really love seeing this stuff. I remember someone showing me a fully colored guide in the school bus back when I was about 6 years old, I wonder if it's hard to get by.

Kinda reminds me on the PD64 guide too, where they said something about classic weapons in Multiplayer which were not included only for Singleplayer in the final game.
Mikght have been a mistake/bug because they were added for multiplayer in the XBLA remake.

Hah you're welcome. Game guides are awesome, but some not so much. I wish this one had full color screenshots and stuff, but it was on the cheaper side of the house. Still very good for plotting missions and enemies though. My neighbor just bought a stack of old game guides, Super Metroid, Street Fighter 2, etc. Those are AWESOME.
