Title: Unable to launch game
Post by: WhiteZero on October 29, 2013, 03:23:05 pm
Haven't played GES in at least a year. Installed the newest version, 4.2.3, verified my Source SDK 2007 (Black Mesa Source runs fine, which also uses it).

But upon launching GES, a window just briefly flashes for a split second and nothing happens. No error message or anything.

Check for any .mdmp files in your Source SDK Base 2007 directory. It may have crashed on you. You might also want to try reinstalling the mod, sometimes the installer freaks out.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried reinstalling the mod now. And I don't have any recent .mdmp files in my SDK dir.  :(

You can try adding: -dxlevel 81

to the launch parameters of the mod in steam

This usually corrects these silly force closes because Valve likes to start games in 640x480 at 16-bit color...

Thanks, the article helped. Using -dxlevel it wouldent seem to save my resolution changes. So I just forced 1920x180 and then set it manually, restarted without any launch options, and now I'm fine.  :D

Hey i hope i'm posting in the correct topic. I installed GE:S yesterday and since then have had a hl2.exe crash each time i tried to launch it. Having tried several fixes with no luck, i come here hoping for help.

I have found my most recent mdmp file but i dont think its relevant (16/082014). I dont understand why there wouldnt be a more recent one but i have never tried looking for them before.

Please help, i really want to play.

You are doing something really wrong. Check that you are installing everything to the "gesource" directory. Ensure there is a bin directory within that with a client.dll and server.dll.

for future reference, you guys can also just .zip or .rar the memory dump file and then it will let you upload it on our forums...

I added .mdmp as an approved attachment extension :-)
