Hi All,
First, thanks for creating this awesome mod. It seems amazing. I'm currently trying to get it up and running on an older machine of mine for LAN with friends.
When I start the game, it freezes on the very first Loading Screen. Adding the option '-novid' did not help. I was able to get the game running when launching with the option '-dxlevel 81'. However this is a DirectX 9 card. I can launch Team Fortress 2 (the only other Valve game I have on this machine) without this parameter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I imagine I am losing a lot of detail using DirectX 8.1 vs 9.0c.
I am running version 4.2.1 of the game.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The machine has:
Windows XP - 32 bit
G31M-ES2L motherboard
Intel Dual Core
4GB DDR2 memory
Radeon X1800GTO (supports DirectX 9.0c).

First of all, nmake sure you have the 4.2.1 full installer and everything installed correct.
The installer is roughly 1.5 GB big.
Also, if you got a software firewall make sure it doesn't block hl2.exe

I used the full installer for 4.2.1. I also have had the software firewall completely disabled (I'm not sure what this would have to do with a directx problem though). Problem continues to persist.

I was able to get the game running when launching with the option '-dxlevel 81'.
What's the problem than? I am a bit confused.
-
So it crashes before you can reach the main menu? Or does it crash whilst loading a map?
-
@Mangley: The game freezes on the very first loading screen (before I can reach the main menu and before it plays the video). As previously mentioned adding the parameter -novid did not help.
@killermonkey: The problem is I would like to play the game using DirectX9, not 8.

You will need newer hardware, maybe. We cannot fix directx issues.
TF2 runs on a completely different engine.
