Title: [4.2/4.2.1]Crash after very long "Loading..."
Post by: Blockbound64 on September 19, 2012, 05:26:12 am
Hello.

After trying to get this to work on mac with wine did not work, I tried on this older windows ('03).

IT runs Portal fine, and some other games well too. But when I try and run GE:S, it just gives a long "Loading..." with the GE:S symbol in the middle, then brings me to the verification thingy, and it gives me an error saying it failed to "read" another thing a file was trying to get it to read. Here's my error file: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?72633ex4mh2nfba   I'm on an '03 Windows XP (Not sure where to check specific specs, sorry :S)

I looked at your memory dump and it indicated that you crashed in d3d9.dll. This means you crashed in Direct3D 9 files. I suggest running with the command line parameter of "-dxlevel 81"

I tried that, and I'm getting this error (I did before as well.):
Quote
The instruction at "0x1103c64f" referenced memory at "0x0ecc1454". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Well then I don't think you'll be able to run this under WINE.

Suggest using a proper virtual machine using https://www.virtualbox.org/

Ummm not sure what you mean by that, but do a google search on how to use command line parameters with Half-Life 2 games if you don't know how

I believe he is referring to the Launch options in the properties box.

Hey Blockbound64, make sure you put exactly -dxlevel 81

including the dash, then hit ok, then ok, then launch the game. See if that works.

I'll go see right now, sorry I didn't explain where I put well, but yes I put it there. I'll go check if its correctly spelled ect. I'll edit this with what happened.

**EDIT:** Still doesn't work, still gives error"The instruction at "0x10f14616" referenced memory at "0x009e1454".  The memory could not be "read"."

Redownload and reinstall the mod along with Source SDK Base 2007 from Steam.
