Title: HL2.exe wont close.
Post by: TriDefiance on August 05, 2012, 03:03:45 pm
When I exit GE:S 4.2, it keeps my status on "Now Playing, GoldenEye: Source 4.2" instead of closing and reverting to just "online". I have to constantly go to Task Manager to end the process. Is this a glitch or is it my computer?

Half Life 2's incompatibility with modern Windows I believe, I think most people have to do this, including me. That's down to Valve never patching it for modern systems, not your computer or anything you have done.

I had this problem with 4.1 too, But looks like the problem disappeared when I installed 4.2

I was thinking the same thing, but it's happened to me twice since then.

Happened to me too on different mods.
A valve issue for sure, not sure if there's a solution at all.

Installing HL2Ep2 fixed this problem for me.

I added the suggested code fix by valve to prevent this issue from happening. It seems that fix only works if you have the full "mod" environment installed. The problem is there is a threading deadlock between the game and steam. There is another fix that is basically to kill the process outright. I might just reintroduce that fix :-)
