Title: Goldeneye: Source on Mac OS
Post by: rufuspoofus on July 03, 2012, 08:12:26 pm
I saw there were posts from two years ago regarding making GE: Source available on Mac OS and the responses were that there was no Steam SDK for Mac.  Is that still the case? If so, is there any news on when it might be available on Mac OS?

 ???

Still no word from Valve on the source code for the Mac version of the source engine. In case you didn't know, Valve takes 5-6 years to do anything. Anything. So I wouldn't count on it being available anytime soon. The Mac version of Source is pretty broken anyway though, you're better off Bootcamping your computer for it.

Another issue is that our lead coder (killermonkey) isn't much of an Apple aficionado. Someone would have to send him a free Mac before he'd even start thinking about it.

Why would anyone want to send me such an ornate paper weight?

IT COMES IN WHITE!!

Also why would they put an SDK out when they spend all this time making a movie editor...

Well hang on a minute guys, I read recently that due to Microsoft's decision to make their own computers that a certain games company was considering releasing on Linux, to diversify.

OS X is gaining real ground now, no doubt about it, I think they can't ignore the platform for too long, I bet they use Macs themselves, even if they have Windows installed on them (which I think is sacrilegious!).

Mac and Linux is a dead end until the video card manufacturers get serious about drivers for both of them. Also, lacking DirectX pigeon holes you into using OpenGL which is not as good....

Not like the Windows drivers are all that great either. From my (Linux) experience Nvidia's drivers work pretty well, AMD's are mediocre, and the open-source ones are nice and stable but way too slow to do much as far as games.

Right now my Windows partition is there for literally one single reason: to play GES. It'll be nice when Steam finally lands on Linux but I would be ecstatic if I could play GES on it.

Yeah mac's aren't really too good for any type of gaming, or hacking, really they are good for general computing purposes wait a few years or buy or build a windows machine.

yes that would be nice but there is no money behind it for the gaming company's, linux being open source. kind of sucks

Macs are quite good at hacking. Maybe not being hacked up code wise. But for hacking others, quite good. Unix core works well. A lot of android and such devs use macs for compiling and hacking.

I am probably getting a new machine this fall; and I was thinking about going back to a PC.  But with bootcamp there really is no need to and since I have enough software that is Mac only it would be too expensive to re-purchase that stuff for PC.

Thanks to everyone for your input.

yeah i'm saying versus a linux distro like knoppix or, back track. Microsoft sucks for penetration testing and "cracking" its decent for legit software development though.
