Australia Day, the 26th of January is our national holiday, which marks the arrival of the First Fleet landing in Australia and subsequently invading the land.
To the Aboriginal people, it is a day of mourning because of this fact.
In many celebrations now, the Aboriginal culture is of great importance and is respected, especially on Australia Day.
We celebrate what we have achieved as a nation and our multiculturalism. People become Australian Citizens, the Australians of the Year are announced and we have firework shows in our cities.
Most people spend time with family and friend having a BBQ, going to the beach, etc, because it is our summer.

Yep, got a dual citizenship. Mother's side of the family lives in Frankston (also known as shithole). I visit my family once a year and party it up in Melbourne. I learned the Melbourne Shuffle back when it was actually cool, brought it back to Hawaii and popularized it here, then abandoned it when LMFAO completely fucked it up in their Party Rock Anthem video. God I hate those guys so much.
I actually wrote a bedtime story a while ago about my misadventures in Frankston. A drunk Kiwi pulled a knife on me there once. That was after he tackled my girl and beat her face in.
That's Frankston for you. Stay the fuck away from that hell of a city.
