After MegaUpload was taken down by US feds, the internet group Anonymous responded by taking down the US Department of Justice website, as well as several other record label companies.
"In one of the U.S. government's largest anti-piracy crackdowns ever, federal agents on Thursday arrested the leaders of and shut down Megaupload.com, a popular hub for illegal media downloads.
Hours later, Megaupload's fans turned the table on the feds. "Hacktivist" collective Anonymous said it set its sights on the U.S. Department of Justice and apparently knocked the agency's website offline.
"We are having website problems, but we're not sure what it's from," a DOJ spokeswoman told CNNMoney.
The DOJ website glitches came soon after various Twitter accounts associated with Anonymous took aim at the agency.
Anonymous's favorite weapon for these attacks is what's called a "distributed denial of service" (DDoS) attack, which directs a flood of traffic to a website and temporarily crashes it by overwhelming its servers. It doesn't actually involve any hacking or security breaches.
"One thing is certain: EXPECT US! #Megaupload" read one tweet from AnonOps that went out mid-afternoon.
One hour later, the same account tweeted a victory message: "Tango down! http://universalmusic.com (http://universalmusic.com/) & http://www.justice.gov// (http://www.justice.gov//) #Megaupload"
It was the largest attack ever by Anonymous, according to an Anonymous representative, with 5,635 people using a networking tool called a "low orbit ion cannon." A LOIC is software tool that aims a massive flood of traffic at a targeted site."

I had so many important files there :(!

As long as they don't touch RS.

I wouldn't be surprised if RS, Zupload, and all the other ones went down too eventually. Megaupload is great, mediafire is the shit of shit. I don't understand how people can use it. Its FILLED with ads. Oh well, sad day it is.
:(
As long as they don't touch fileserver either... :(

Yeah why I moved to private hosting. Was happy to see anonymous on the retaliation though. All those sites are in thin water.

I just had to delete my Downloads playlist on YouTube. Don't know if any of you ever saw my downloads section, but I like to put together various community projects in my spare time. I basically collected high res textures, models, sounds etc for classic games and put it all together, then offered them for download from my channel, but it was all legal, I never offered any game files, just community stuff like game engines and materials, now it's all gone, gutted.

I hear Adblock does great things... I see no ads besides the bitdefender thingy on the uploader.
It is a sad day; I didn't have anything there but I know people who did.

Yeah I don't either, using a stock web browser. Saint also believes http://imgur.com/ is riddled with viruses.

They are picking them off...one by one...

It has some pretty random shit...I don't trust that website. Know 3 people that have gotten trojans from it from simple Google search pictures. Keep using it and I am sure you are bound to find one, if you look at peoples pictures.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of links cried out in terror, and were suddenly 404'd.
