Title: New Laptop!
Post by: killermonkey on December 30, 2011, 08:04:43 pm
KM bought himself a new laptop:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&series_name=dm4x_series&a1=Screen%20size&v1=12.0%20-%2014.9 (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&series_name=dm4x_series&a1=Screen%20size&v1=12.0%20-%2014.9)

What does this mean for GES? Well it won't take me 20 minutes to compile the mod on the train anymore, which equates to more development time!

Honestly, I am starting to dislike hp products man. Here I have a touchpad which already has two cracks near the speaker. I never dropped it, banged it, or threw it.

Look at post # 88   http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250645&page=9

We bought a hp pavilion dv2315nr laptop and a year later the gpu melted due to poor heat dissipation. Then I went through a lawsuit and finally got a new laptop for free!

Im gonna stick with asus, lenovo, sony brands.

good luck with that laptop. Enjoy it!

Eh, I disagree. I've had nothing but great experiences with HP products (knock on wood).

My laptop is an HP nc6220 that's been with me for 6 years now. This thing's been dropped, thrown, bumped, scratched, and every other thing. I've had Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu, and even Mac OSX on it. It's from an era before metal bodies, and even after so much abuse the plastic body is scratched to hell and the ventilation covers have broken off but the thing still cranks away as well as ever.

HP products can be touch and go from my experience... I don't think there's a universal standard of quality for their stuff that you can go by. They do good printers and scanners, but they're always dependent on software which is usually bloated with unnecessary features and mandatory updates.

Yah this laptop is solid aluminum construction and has the same keyboard as the mac pro. I currently have an HP that overheats, cracks, etc. However, the thing works and has worked for 3 years every single day. And i abuse the shit out of my laptop.

That link you posted is for a defunct product, and its not even a laptop.

You know how I earlier today said my HP laptop has worked for 6 years without a hitch? I just went to turn it on a few minutes ago, opened Firefox, and it blinks off. The motherboard died.

What a freaky coincidence.

Well wear KM, the laptop looks pretty sweet. I'm still on my trusty Inspiron 1545 (have it for nearly 2 years now mind you) and it still does the job for all my web browsing, word processing, programming and low spec gaming needs. It's basically a college laptop and it should do for the remaining few years I have left there. Overheats like mad though, lol

Always kinda wanted a HP Envy series. A buddy who has a HP laptop overheats all the time in-game, but its one of the cheap 17" crappy ones, made for just watching movies not gaming 5 hours straight.

My Asus has worked like a dream, even though I haven't turned it on in like 2 months. But worked fine when I used it.

My main computer is a Dell Studio 1737 laptop. It has been functioning well for quite a while, but my old dell inspiron was fast as hell, but melted...literally. My graphics card ran on idle at about 100 degrees Celsius. They finally gave me a studio book after i bugged them 3 times and my graphics card overheated 3 times...lol. Damn dells. This one has been going strong for 3 years though. Hopefully it doesn't turn into SSL's hp. lol

It isn't that great...but it has lasted pretty long:

Core 2 duo 2.0 ghz
4gb ram
256mb ati mobility hd radeon 3650
1920x1080 17 inch display
150gb hard drive

not the greatest..but it works..and I am using it right now. I use it for anything and everything. It is the only computer I have.

I have Acer Aspire 5742G with:

Intel i5-460M
4GB DDR3 RAM
nVidea GeForce GT 420M
15.6'' LED-LCD display
750GB HDD

working good so far.
Only issue is that my 3D app. sometimes won't update the 3D viewport in realtime, till i minimized the app. and maximized it again.

Finally got my hands on the new laptop. It's amazing!

I just chewed through 1 hour of civ 5 an still have 60% battery left. Graphics on medium left no hiccups or slow downs. Temp remained relatively low :-)

going to setup my development environment in the next two days, till then it's time to rule the world!

Does it run crysis 2?

The GPU is able to run the first Crysis which is even more demanding than the second one (from what I've read in the past)

I pretty much agree with this, Crysis 2 is simply badly optimized (From last time I've played it, Which means a damn while.)
And I prefer Crysis 1's feel.
