Whee!
-
Really? That doesn't really seem like something Steam would do for free. I know a few people that would be happy about this now.
-
The free accounts have limitations though, No trading, drops, limited crafting blueprints, can not give gifts, and your backpack is limited to 50 slots. You can turn your account into premium by buying anything in the Mann Co. Store.
Neat that they give you the SDK.

1. Do not use 'FTP' erroneously.
2. Verify it before you spam it around. My top Google result for "TF2 free sdk" is YOUR post on gamefaqs forums (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/3-poll-of-the-day/59545267).
Sorry but I like my news more concrete than word of mouth. If it's true then it's good news.

I have a friend that's downloading TF2 right now. I'll as him to check the SDK + Bases.
-
Free TF2 does not include the SDK.
This is why you should never make assumptions.

In developments in the last few days: Valve has actually announced that the Source SDK will now be free to all Steam users!

I think we'll be capitalising on this change of events in the run up to 4.2 to try and bring in a broader audience now that there is no monetary factor involved. The free version has not yet been rolled out yet though, it's expected to be in the near future.

Snap, I thought buying a single item in TF2 unlocked the SDK for me, looks like that wasn't true =]
-
But does the SDK include the 2007 SDK base?
-
Buying an item from the TF2 store
just turns your FTP account into a "premium" account.
-
But does the SDK include the 2007 SDK base?
Yeah the entire current SDK. That's 2006 and 2007 base and the SDK tools. Of course to Valve these are pretty much obsolete anyway given that there's been the L4D, L4D2, 2009, Alien Swarm and Portal 2 iterations since.
