Do yourself a favor and download it. It's great. Even if you were only mildly impressed with the first one, check out this demo.
Graphics are killer, game play and controls are smooth, and the engine is well optimized. I was worried that my 5770 was gonna struggle with it since it balks a paltry 25-32fps @ max settings in the original, but in this demo (note that it's not 100% indicative of gameplay,) my fps is a very comfortable 40-50+ @ max settings.
-
I'm trying this out with some people as soon as its done, Let's see if its better than the first one.
EDIT :

You're kidding me, Right?
Obvious console port.
I can't even set my sound settings to 7.1 surround nor 5.1 surround.
-
very comfortable 40-50+
I'm not a fan of needing to go grab a snack between screen updates.
-
Server browser is incredibly slow, I can't connect to half of the servers receiving the message "Connecting to host failed", Whenever we join a game we need to wait for a lobby to be filled to start a game, The mouse control in the friend list menu is not even synchronized, The only servers that works are 300+ ping servers located in Europe, Controls are so unresponsive I could barely aim anyone.
This sure as hell ain't getting my 70$, Another game from the consoles ported too fast and tested by monkeys. No offense KM, You're doing a better job than their whole development team.
-
It definitely looks nice and I got a good framerate, yet it got boring quickly since it was just deathmatch and capture/hold the blah blah blah.
-
Yeah looks pretty great, like said more optimized. Good steady 45-60 fps on highest GFX(Hardcore):

But yeah wouldn't be buying the game for the MP anyway.
-
Havent played it yet but all seems good to me. But like the original the MP will surely be fairly dull. Hopefully the SP is just as gripping however...
-
I was rather surprised by the demo. The MP was kinda fun. Again, wouldn't really be buying for the MP, but seems like a real attempt at a good MP. I played for ~2 hours, and was pretty fun.
-
Already got it on Xbox, looks great and plays well, but I'll have to check this version out as well.
-
Ive played it now. Hated it. Just seems like completely soulless deatmatch, but more annoyingly it just doesnt feel like Crysis. Ill reserve judgement until i play the full singleplayer.
-
I would like to try it out, but my Radeon 9250 wont let me.
-
<20 FPS on "Gamer" at 800x600. Only game that runs that poorly on my 9500 GS.
-
All I did was watching the video and I was like... Yeah... okey... meh...
I played Crysis 1 and Warhead. It was fun while I was playing it, but there was nothing to keep me comming back.
Knowing the original halves and seeing the new one didn't even made me want to download it.
Meanwhile... DNF is comming close, Dr. Dre has already released two Detox songs and GNU/HURD is becomming stable.
What happened?
-
So, since my initial post in this thread, I've played the MP a few times, and I've learned a few things. Unfortunately, most of these things are Crytek = fail.
Personally, I wasn't really a fan of the original, and though Warhead was better, I still can't bring myself to play them a 2nd time through. But I digress.
If you haven't played the MP yet, let me save you some time:
1.) It screams console port. Crytek recently released a patch that "fixed server connections" and changed the intro thing to say "press ENTER to begin" instead of "press START." Unfortunately, the patch pretty much does the opposite, and now the demo thinks that all servers ping 0 when in fact they have a connection.
Crytek = Fail.
2.) The MP is set up like a ghostly clone of COD. If you're a fan of COD MP, save yourself the $60-70 on the 22nd and keep playing COD. The only real difference is that C2 has beefed up graphics.
You've got 4 basic "character" classes and one customizable class. It's a ranked point system where the exp. you gain unlocks weapons, suit modules, accessories, and attachments. Also, there are "skill assessments" that also unlock things - just like COD. It's quite redundant and displeasing honestly. Unoriginal.
Crytek = Fail.
3.) Not only is the demo in DX9, but the actual game itself will ship in DX9. Yeah, you heard right, DX9. Optimized for the aging 360 / PS3 hardware, Crytek will update the game to DX11 via a patch. It's understandable that companies have to follow a certain timetable and release patches to fix things. I think in this case it's not so much what they said but how they said it. PC Gamers still use Crysis as a bench 4 years later and now we've been forgotten by these guys ----> $$$
Crytek = Fail
4.) As of yet, there are only 2 game types: team elimination and a king of the hill inspired pod-capturing game type.
An MP with only 2 game types...srsly? It could be (and I hope,) it's just a demo thing but...well, I don't know. All the other stuff that is going to be part of the MP was just "locked" instead of not being included in the demo so... it's a head-scratcher.
Crytek = Fail.
5.) Last one, I promise. The demo released 9 days ago and already people have figured out ways to play annoyingly by keep their thermal vision on ALL the time (allowing you to see people that are invis.) So, because people were able to figure out how to make an MP of a limited demo annoying in just 9 days:
Crytek = Fail.
Hold out for Battlefield 3 and Portal 2.

Hold out for Battlefield 3 and Portal 2.
EA Games with the Battlefield series (Not Bad Company.) is probably the only company that still do quality FPS titles on the PC, Along with Valve.
Call of Duty used to be an PC title (Console Call of Duty titles we're nothing close to the PC versions). Anyone enjoyed Call of Duty 2? That was a good game in my opinion, Especially in LAN with a few friends.
Now, Its all about money, Money, Money and more money. Come on man... Where's the heart companies used to input in their games?
I can't clearly think of another company that still creates high quality multiplayer FPS for the PC right now.
