Title: PWYW concept - opinions and experiences
Post by: coolDisguise on January 07, 2011, 08:41:28 am
Hello everybody,

since I came across the PWYW (pay what you want) concept only recently and it isn't that common in Germany at all, I wanted to hear if any of you already have experiences with that and what your opinions are on it.

On a sidenote there's also http://www.humblebundle.com/ who might or might not have another bundle ready sooner or later.

Seems to me its a great idea, i remember when rasdiohead released their album "in rainbows" on PWYW. Ended up being their highest grossing album if i remember rightly... youre always going to get the odd die hard fan who pays $400 for it.

Whoah, yeah that 2nd Humble Indie Bundle surpassed 1,8 million dollar in sales :o

It seems that the only people who do not pirate, are the people that are willing to grant others with money for their work. If you have a PWYW model than people seem to be more willing to grant you an award for your work, since you also grant the people to be able to get it gratis.

Mutual respect seems to be a very good business model. If you make something valuable than people always have the option to pirate it anyways, so I'd say HIT IT!  ;)
