Title: Cant get it to start

Ok I did every thing I can to get it to work I downloaded the file off the website and I cant get it to start I have half life 2 on my steam I restarted it too like my friend told me too but its still not on my games list

Why is it that much trouble to install for some people when there's no pictures?oO
