Title: Monitor suggestions
Post by: coolDisguise on October 27, 2010, 01:41:36 pm
Hi everyone, like I mentioned in another thread I'm going to have a new computer soon, so a new monitor wouldn't be a bad idea either. (I'm running an old 4:3 CRT atm)

I'd be thankful for recommendations of monitors that
- have an aspect ratio of 16:9
- are at least 21.5''
- support Full HD
- support HDMI or DVI
- are priced max. 150-170 $ or €

Please share your personal experiences as well.

You're at the top of display technology already, why step down?

One of my two monitors (http://davelm.com/images/desk(small).jpg) is one of these(older version):

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4938551&CatId=3774

I've had it for over a year, and still works great. And its the older version of that one, so that one is better.
Has two HDMI, and comes with a HDMI to DVI cable. As well as built in speakers in case you want to use it as a mobile TV for game console or something.

But its a little over your price. But I'm happy with it, and has like 700 reviews.

No, just upgrade a lot. I just last week threw away my first ever monitor. a 15" CRT by Compaq. Then my brother has my old 19" CRT. And my dad has my old 22"lcd. And I have my two 25".

Yeah that's what I meant when I said personal feedback. :-)
Nonetheless, thanks to osaeed2k9 as well, because this monitor is also in the final selection along with some LG monitors and a Viewsonic monitor. My computer has been built yesterday, I'll get it today, so I think I'll make decision on the monitor by the end of next week.

It's still available from Amazon, though.

Not only is it cheaper for me to buy there, it doesn't take as long as a delivery from the USA. (reminder: yeah, I'm sitting here in Germany >.<)

I just encouraged to post about the same $ prices because mostly it's about the same in €. So your post was AND still is helpful, after all.

All you'd need is a Bugatti and you'd be all set... ::)

CRT is the best for FPS games.  If I had the space I would go back to them.

Ain't got no car (actually I don't need one at the moment either), but if you're looking for cut games - we've got plenty. A good example for that would be Saints Row 2 (if you can read German, it might be interesting, otherwise just stare at the pictures: http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=5975611).

Also they cut every movie sequence showing Hitler from C & C Red Alert -  so basically if you don't read the manual, you have no clue what is going on.

CRT is the best for FPS games.  If I had the space I would go back to them.

No one sells them anymore and I don't see the point of having one, when everything is going 16:9 and higher resolutions than a CRT could display. The input lag between 2 and 5 seconds shouldn't be that noticeable.
