Title: Will Goldeneye Source get a single-player version?
Post by: jwtam on February 01, 2010, 09:10:12 pm
It's been one year after someone here (in an old thread) asked a developer(s) a question about whether we are getting a single player remake of Goldeneye. Have the developers reached a decision yet? Also some people are screaming for a skirmish mode with bots in the game despite the MP features under this mod. How long has this mod been in development (including the HL1 version)?

Also there had been news that a Goldeneye remake for Nintendo Wii might be releasing in 2010 but it hasn't been made official yet:

Never was aware there was an HL1 version of the mod.

Too bad we don't have anyone to code AI, if this was a professional project with a dedicated AI coder then singleplayer would be done and polished right now.

I was a big follower of the HL1 mod, was really good.. I ran a server for a long time.
This question came up a while back when they were trying to get Goldeneye on the 360..

We don't know at this point.

Goldeneye: Source is in no way associated with the Goldeneye mod that was developed for half life 1.

Hmmm. I think you guys need to hire a AI coder(s) soon.  :-\

We don't "hire" anyone. Everyone working on the mod is doing so completely for free in their spare time, we gain developers as they come by and apply to volunteer. If a coder capable of doing AI comes along, then great.

He can you make a Singeplayerversion like it is in Counter Strike: Source ? Mi6 vs Janus. Well i mean exactly like in Counter Strike: Source, you know ? Fight against NPC/CPU.

Bots aren't fun. They're just poor substitutes for real players and ultimately aren't a challenge.

Singleplayer NPCs are more important.

Mangley is right. I don´t understand why everybody wants bots. in my opinion, bots are a waste of time. when I play internet games, I want to play with real people, not with stupid robots. and there´s always somebody I can play with, so what´s the big deal with scripted wannabe-terminators ?

The bots in UT are nice because they are decent.  They are great targets and they don't suck ass if you crank them up.  I have just always found it stupid when bots smack talk...

I can understand the desire for bots, since I had Dial-up for several years. I started playing GoldenEye: Source when had dial-up back in Beta 1. Soon after that though I did get high speed, and my wanting for bots disappeared.

Another reason I would think people would want bots is to practice offline as to not make a fool out of your self. Personally I learning with real people is the best, everyone has their own style, compared to bots which have little variation.

There is also a large difference in a SP AI and a DM AI..  if you look at the N64 GE the bots are programed to guard..  while in multiplayer games (ex UT) they are hunting.

Is it possible to use the existing AI subroutines from HL2?  I mean, Combine soldiers in HL2 know how to hunt you down and shoot, and civilians know how to cower, don't they?  (I forget)

From the surface, it looks like that should be an easy way to program bloodthirsty guards and cowardly scientists...  Since I outright suck at video games, the thought of multiplayer dismay's me... last thing I need is to be "totally pwned" by an autistic 13 year old - which would totally happen to me, let alone the depressing humiliation of a 5.3x10^16 to 2 deaths to kills ratio.

If I had a clue how to do that, I'd be started already, but when it comes to such things, I know nothing.  I only wish I could be a developer.

We are working on adding bots to mp but if it was easy it would be done by now. We also aim to allow access to create bots via python and change the way the ai works so the community can make much better ai if wanted.
