Hey all, I'm trying to run my own server. The hostname is bigdix.servegame.org - I can connect to it just fine from my home network and my friends can connect from the internet so it shouldn't be a firewall problem, but it only appears in the server list maybe 10% of the time. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
-
Since I cant see it on the list either. What is the IP?
Also is it a local server or a professionally hosted server?
-
I gave you the host name - it resolves to the server IP: 71.61.62.222
Hosted on my cable connection
Thanks

Server name is "All LTK All The Time - BiGDiX"
And show up on my server list as of now, so really cant say whats the cause as its working.
-
Just checked and not showing up on my side. Something fishy is going on

There is some sort of bug in Source, or GE:S with server only showing up if people are in them. You can try maybe setting a Source TV as see if you show up on list.
it's in the Valve.rc file.
-
You won't see it when starting the server, you have to change/reload map first.
Also the "show maplist feature" will prevent servers without players on it from showing up.
Disable it and the whole list of servers will show up.
I just connected to your server... another little suggestion: it's not good tryin to fool ppl with fake clients.
Do only one bot named as something like bot.
If ppl join your server because they see 2 ppl on it, but when they join there's noone on it, they might feel betrayed and never return to your server.

This same problem is happening to me for Beta 4 now...

So, you and your freinds can connect to it and see it on the server list. And it only shows up 10% of the time.
Perhaps you can provide some details like;
- Hostname/ip of your server.
- When you and your friends were last able to connect to it.
PS: I hope you're not running fake clients.
-
Running a home server, you will always run into issues. Some ISP's just hate people running servers and will block ports. Could be on your end, and odds are it is, whether AV software, Firewall, router, many things.
And like the Dr. said, what is your ip, and has anyone been able to join?
-
Only people on the LAN can connect, no one elsewhere can connect, it's not up right now, but i will try and host it, as said above, i believe it would be something to do with my firewall, and etc., odd thing is though L4D1/2's servers work for me (when i host it myself, for custom maps, etc.), i realize L4D1/2 are different games and technically more then likely a different engine itself (version) so it's not a huge comparison, i only mention it due to the fact that they run on the same "basic" engine, but i don't expect anything to come from that
My server IP is 71.227.129.11, i'll try and have it up for the next day and a half
guess it's not exactly the same as the OP, lol, sorry
Any typical settings i should set in the firewall? i could try putting my specific IP on DMZ, see if that helps, but i rather not have any of my computers on the DMZ for any extended period of time
-
So aura, have you done sv_lan 0, then changemap?
is this a Ingame server, or a dedicated using scrds?
-
i've tried both, however right now it's a dedicated server set up how it's said to set up, i have not tried manually putting in the lan setting, however, it's set to that in the server.cfg, i'll type it in the server though just in case to see if it works, and continue to leave the server up
IF it makes any difference, though i doubt it will, it does say it connects to the steam servers....
"Adding Master Server 68.142.72.250:27011
Adding master server 72.165.61.189:27011
Connection to Steam servers successful."
Which tells me it is at least able to connect to the outside world...
-
try changing the port(add to command line):
-port 27016
-
try changing the port(add to command line):
-port 27016
alright, did that, from my side it does not look like anything changed though, still can not see it on the steam master server list
only reason i even want to make a server is because i want a server which only does LTK non-team based, lol

If your Firewall is set to something like "stealth mode" for Internet zone, make sure to lower this settings a little, so it's visible for other PC's.
