Title: Radar tweaks
Post by: bobo72a on October 28, 2009, 05:13:59 am
After playing a few rounds of one on one two things became clear:

If radar was on, then whoever got the first kill was able to hunt down the other player quickly before they picked up armor etc and the game was very fast paced without suprises.

If radar was off, players would take way too long to find eachother and often the person who was ahead would run off and hide.

So in order to reach a middle ground somewhere, I think it would be a good idea to allow for a radar that has an adjustable blind spot near you so the element of suprise is kept, yet camping is prevented as you can find the direction they're in, and on larger maps, just enough to get you close to finding eachother.

Thoughts on this?

When I want to have a good one on one, I heavily reduce the radius to something closer to Halo's motion tracker and play on the small maps.

Usually there's no problem because the game tries to spawn the enemy player as far away as possible.

You make fair points, but if its really 1 on 1 between worthy opponents, they wont "hunt you down" using cheap methods but rather play honorable tactics and let you get guns and protect their own interests than deprive you of yours.

If you are talking about hopping in a server with a random waiting for followers, and this 1 on 1 situation occured, thats not even what the game is designed for because we encourage more players in 10-15 popular servers than having 50 servers with 2 players in each. 4+ players is what we gear our design around. So if that exists you have the potential for 3 guys to work together to take down a "cheap" player using those methods, and thats the balance struck.
