Is wonderful! Never really knew about it until I saw a post by Doc.NO - was wondering, are there any plans to accept other servers or only WNx? Cheers

Not to be opinionated/bias or anything.....OWS is the way to go...... ::) ::)

OWS is the way to go
wat???
to the above question:
short answer: yes.
long answer: I need to code a system for server ops to add their server since right now the only way to add a server is in the admin interface which also allow user to empty the database - I'm sure you udnerstand why I'm reluctant to give people access to that :P I already started to work on that as well as a couple other thing
* achievements: much easier way to show off your achievements than taking a screenshot :P Half done for now.
* heatmaps - someone asked for that somewhere on these forums, I'm using some bits of code from psychostats. Half done as well.
I also want to add a way to stop streaming when the server has sv_cheats on, when vac is turned off and when the server is passworded in order to keep griefing as low as possible.
I'm facing some problems. Database size is now around 500 mb (this is why the website is slow) and I'm expecting it to grow even more if more servers are streaming. Any web host will tell you big and fast database = lot of money. And I have for some reasons very little time to work on this. And whenever i get time my lazy ass is hooked up in that TF-half-broken game.
So yeah lot of features planned/in the work, little time. It *will* be done (in fact it is being done, just real slow), not sure how many time it'll take. By the way, how many server ops would be interested?
-
Dr. No, talk to me I can help you with your database woes, I have a lot of experience hardening a web site / database and setting up trusted access interfaces. Also, for the achievements and heatmaps and sv_cheats if you want help from the coding side in beta 4 let me know. I can output server messages that will work with the tracking programs
-
If you and Monkey get together and code is changed, I will gladly make you a custom FTP account to the Beta4 testing server if you need it.
Also have a 9 Gbps Tier-1 Website Connection if you wanna test with another connection, limited to only 300GB a month transfer, but could upgrade.
If you need anything/ wanna test anything, Ill help as much as I can.
And who's been Applauding KM? He needs his -666 rep.
-
I think I would definitely be interested. You tha man Doc!

I should really read and probably post here more often than I do but if you need my help with anything you know where to find me. I'll be moving out today though so I'll be without the internet for a little bit.

**WARNING**
Ges-stats people and all others using stats programs. I found a bug today in the BETA 3.1.4 code (now Beta 4 of course) that sent out the player_hurt message TWICE. Once in our GE:S code and once, again, buried in Valve's code.
This means that damage is being applied to the stats system *TWICE* for every hit a player takes. I don't know if this makes a difference on your ranking system, but if it does the easy fix is to half all damage that is read, so that the second message brings it back to the normal value.
I have, obviously, fixed this bug for Beta 4.

In points, yeah. But I still have the highest accuracy by far. :)
-
Stats should reset for 4 anyway, since the game is changing so much with Rollings and Penetration and the Klobb's buff.

Talking about spam...
I do agree with you VC. The game feels completely new and many of the strategies that apply now don't work any more with B4. If Bad (Doc.NO) pulls it off, I'd love to see other clans sharing the stats. I personally believe it would benefit the mod.
-
I wouldn't know, but a cleansing doesn't sound like a bad idea.
...And Kaiser's rank is what I've been about since WNx started the stats thing. Fancy seeing it as a title.
-
I love This!! I hope it catches on with more servers
-
I sorted by accuracy and noticed:
1. United kingdom thePhantom 994 -6 Points 41.3449% 0d 00:04:52h 3 7 0.4286 0 0.0000 300.0%
2. United states penguinboy5 1,073 73 Points 21.7694% 0d 00:15:18h 4 3 1.3333 0 0.0000 107.1%
LOL, your formula is fail, bro.
Skipping everyone with under one hour as statistically insignficant...
21. Sweden 4D • Alb1N 8 år 1,007 59 Points 64.7166% 0d 01:19:35h 141 186 0.7581 0 0.0000 36.1%
22. United states Viashino Cutthroat 8,324 -231 Points 97.2059% 1d 07:28:35h 5,809 1,405 4.1345 0 0.0000 34.7%
29. United states JessEH 14,633 155 Points 90.3984% 2d 01:04:52h 8,717 2,071 4.2091 0 0.0000 32.4%
I'm pretty bad-ass but I better stay away from that AR-33 or I'll lose some ground.
-
Meh, accuracy shmacracy. Round wins is what really counts. There is nothing wrong with spamming cover fire while you make a hasty retreat for the armor then return on the attack. And I'm not going for accuracy while trying to get my klobb kills up.
Mostly harmless -1 pts
Most dishonorable -10 pts
????
Why? What constitutes most dishonorable anyways?
-
Attacking someone from behind (not sure if that applies to knives as well), or shooting an unarmed player.
-
If that's what it takes for you to have a chance at a round win, go for it. I prefer to persue the complete victory, and that requires defeating my own failings, such as missing sometimes or wasting bullets.

No that's not what it takes I'm often on the offensive for the entire round always trying for headshots and accuracy of course is going to make you a better player but I don't get too caught up on accuracy. I more like to hone strategies for different maps, weapon sets, and the number of players. Defeating my personal failings involves using all these things as best I can, making smart choices and coming up with better strategies getting as many kills as I can while dying as little as possible. But that's just my personal opinion toward it. If accuracy were more more important then rounds would be won by hit percentage but there not.

Killing a player who is not moving eg: while typing should be a big factor for most dishonorable, if not already.
I think that not killing much at all should be punished worse than being dishonorable.
-

Killing non moving playersdoes not qualify as being dishonorable. How does that even correlate? So you are saying that if I am camping and someone kills me, they are dishonerable? Think about it...
Also, it is impossible for the server to tell when someone is typing since it is entirely client side, they are fucktards for typing during combat and should be justly punished anyway.
The point giving and taking system on HLxStats is completely fucked (at least on WNx servers). There is no reason why a noob who kills me gets 15 points (and I LOSE 15 points) when I killed them 20 times to their 1...

I have raved on this before. Someone knows my pain...
GTFO of noob-filled rooms.

Only fifteen? I drop 25 when I survive combat with one bar left and get klobbed in the ass by a respawner.

Not to boast or anything.....
-
There's a Spectator mode for a reason. You wanna type, go to Spec. Otherwise expect to get shot.
Try losing 25 every time you die, and only get 2 no matter who you kill. I lost 195 points in 10 minutes last night, you learn to deal with it...
But seeing as so many people dislike it, I'll chat to Doc and see what he can tinker with.
-
Not much that can be done; if you don't lose points, rank is just who plays the most. Besides, this thread has demonstrated that everyone is playing for a different statistic and ignores the others.
-

The website uses the stock HLstatsX formula. And no, stock formula is not fucked.

There is a reason: you got owned by a noob with a shit weapon (say... klobb for example). Shame on you :P Note it works both way: whenever you kill someone better than you, you will gain a lot of point. And even more if the kill is made with a shit weapon.
If highly ranked people wouldn't loose point, how would you gain some?

Heh citrus man is right.
-----------
edit. min points a player gain from a frag is 2, max is 25. What would people around here suggest this to be changed to?
-
The formula is based on the chess system; the point differential determines the swing. However, chess is a one-on-one even competition. FPS games are multiple-participant encounters with variable offensive and defensive capabilities. Fortunately, that's okay because it's a wash in the long run, because statistics is really cool. So don't worry about it or screw with anything.
-
For now, hl stats is the best way for the mod to have stats. Personally i dont get why people on here even say things like "gtfo noobs that take my points" etc..you realise you dont have a game if you act so retarded towards the community and act like they those below you are ruining your "owning"? tbo you WANT people to come, and you want them to enjoy themselves and for GES to be fun.
Otherwise, you are working against us in a big way.
-

If that was a ding towards me, note that I was recommending high-rankers (if they care) to stray from rooms filled with low-rankers, as losing a crap-load of points is inevitable because you end up having to kill around ten people per death just to break even. (Difficulty +/- depending on how many there are.)
Just clarifying. Nothing against other players, just the circumstances. They're just in there having fun like the rest of us.
Hell, lower score doesn't mean lower skills. They're likely just new to the game, but can still be excellent in the FPS genre.
~Edit for grammar.

I get my points from round awards. Marksmanship is all over me. :D
-
Yeah, I too seem to always get most (if not all) the round award slots. It's rare for me not to get Marksmanship. :) I don't really have issues playing with low ranked peoples. Yes, seemingly every death takes a sizable chunk of points, but I always seem to recover. What I'm saying is, I see nothing wrong with the ranking system, and I see no reason to avoid noob filled servers. Exerting effort to do so would only show your cowardice and lack of real skill.
But either way, they're just points. Pointless points at that. Just enjoy playing the game, and the others who play it with you. :)
-
I don't have a problem with playing with "noobs". Hell, I was playing with WNxNalle (rank#3) earlier, and even he was nabbing 7pts/kill from me. Doesn't matter who I play against, I lose a shetload of points ;)
To be fair, if you're actually a good player, you should be making up some of the points with round wins and awards, they deal out a fair bit. At the end of the day, KDR > points.

The system is designed so that it's harder for those at the top to stay there
-
It just leaves a bitter taste everytime i suffer HL stats point wise while i was winning a round/match.
I recognized i changed my gaming a lot since we got HLXstats.
E.g. i avoid LtK matches, coz they're a guarantee for loosing a lot of points.
Also it seems Team DM and Team YOLT are the easiest way to earn stats points.
It always feels like i'm punished for playin the game.
Having another one or two high ranked players on the server doesn't mean anything as long as there are low rankers who kill you from behind when you're engaged in a firefight with another high ranked player.
Beside that, there's no real chance to go just for the high rankers right now, coz you don't know who you're dealing with in most cases, till you kill the one or you're killed. (except he's the only one who's playing this character).
I don't say we should drop the whole HLXstats thing, but there are some things that might need a change to suit GES and our community situation a little more.
-
I think we need an internal stats system. Something that would complement the Missions mode and the more complicated game scenarios like Live and Let Die.
Also, the stats formulae in HLX do not work. I checked it out; there are a lot of unlisted damage events, pistol damage rates are in the thousands, and shotguns are counting up to five hits per one shot. Mines are also wrong. Both need to be counted such that you "fire" when the mine explodes, and hits are either 0 (no one was damaged) or 1 (at least one enemy was damaged). Similar for penetration weapons in B4, since you could jack your stats just by having people stand together. I'll PM KM on this to ensure he knows. Since we altered the damage system to make shotgun work, fixing the hit reporting should be do-able.
