If your on the same network (lan) with the server it will show under the lan tab. You also need to set up port forwarding for others out side your lan to see it as well.
-
Mine doesn't show up on the server list or under the LAN tab. So how do you set up port forwarding?
-
have you tired connecting to it by ip? (open console and type "connect [ip address]" where [ip address] is the servers ip.)
Also see www.portforward.com (you need to forward ports 27015-27020)
-
Yes, I tried that. I can't remember what it says but it shuts down the game.
What exactly am I looking for? My router (the same thing I use to connect my video game systems to the internet)?
-
well whats the error it states? We cant help you solve it if you dont give us all the info.
Yeah that would be your router.
-
ok i did what you said. i put in the console connect (my ip address) and it did show up on the lan tab. can anyone who click the lan tab see the server up or only i see it. if so, how can everyone see it
-
you might try sv_lan 0
though that might be irrelevant.
-
why would that be irrelevant. is it because anyone who clicks the lan tab would see the server i made
-
You have to be on the same lan to see it in a lan tab. I.e. if your server ip is 10.0.0.1 any one on 10.0.0.X will see it under lan
-
so how does someone get on the same lan as you?
-
If you intending on hosting a server for OTHER PEOPLE ON YOUR LAN then this post is not relevant. If you are intending on hosting a server for ANYONE then it is and please read on.
Read the documentation on your router on how to setup port forwarding to your computer on the following ports:
UDP: 27000 - 27020
TCP: 27015 - 27039
UDP: 1200 - 1200
I cannot, nor can most anyone else, help you with this as every router is different and some don't even let you do it!
Find a friend who is literate with computer networking and he'll explain it for you or read up about it.

ok bear with me because i must be a geico cave man. lets say me and my boy want to play a game of 1 vs 1. how would we go about doing that.
-
also i dont use a router. i am hardwired
-
Sorry, I didn't have access to the computer when I made that post. When trying to connect to my server via IP, it gives me a window that says "Engine error" with the description being "Couldn't allocate any server IP port". My games shuts down, too.
So is it suggested I try forwarding my ports?
-
do i forward these ports even if i dont have a router
-
1. You can't forward ports without a router
2. Try disabling Windows Firewall, although this puts you at increased risk for hacking/worms/trojans
3. Get cozy with an online reference to hosting a source game
There is only so much help we are willing to dish out, sometimes you have to use Google and learned yourself (intentionally misspelled)
-
well my question is simple then. how can i play a 1 on 1 game with someone.
-
Think the easiest way will to be download and use hamanchi (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en) and then host the server on the same computer as hamanchi and then connect via the lan window
-
ok i downloaded hamanchi. i dont quite understand how to connect with it. it looks like a IM service. how do you play a lan game with someone over this
-
no offense meant but some people should just stick with playing consoles.
if you have no router then i assume your pc connects directly to the Internet via a cable/dsl/fiber modem?
then how do the other pc's connect to the Internet on your "lan"; via a switch/hub using windows Internet sharing using a secondary lan card from your pc? D:
having a lan game and 1v1s is easy plug and play stuff when you have a proper lan setup with a router.
-
no offense taken. but realize that everyone was a noob at this at one point. im just trying to understand more about it. like i said, i have between 20-30 people wanting to play this mod. they are noobs just like me. i figure since im the first one to get GES. the more i know, the less you have to hear.
