This comes out on my b-day in australia. I believe because of this fact I may go see it. The last cinema release i went to was Indy 4. Thats not a sign I think it sucked, i just rarely go to be sorounded by a group of people where its questionable they are "movie buff" material. I really enjoyed indy 4, except maybe the ending which i think many would agree was kinda weird, as epic as it looks.
ok, back to the TS trailer. Disclaimer : I am aware i am attacking the bare plot that I've read up on and visually, the trailer material only.
Im sorry, but this movie feels like it has NO unique atmosphere to me ; I remember first seeing this in development on imdb 18 months ago, CB was "rumored" and I had high hopes. However, it looks like they slightly greyed up the digital print and kept everything looking very sharply photo real aside from that color pallete change. Maybe its just the trailer that is appearing that way. It looks like any war movie out there that could exist in a real future world, which sucks this is terminator universe not real world. Everything about past films was heavily stylized filmically.
I love christian bale, but I think he just became the only reason people will like this movie, because of him as john connor the badass hero. The same cannot be said about past films, where it struck a chord with the truth of humanity through many characters eyes from a story.
I shit you not if john connor of the future ever shows a human emotion before they take down the machines, I will cry bullshit. Anyone whose seen T2 knows that JC was a fucking war animal with one focus at the point they start to take down the machines. He wasnt caring about human emotion, it was a fight for bare human survival and he had grown up with handle for human emotion much like kyle reese, who only opened up when he wasnt in his world anymore and was feeling a connection with sarah connor. In other words, the emotion made fucking sense, thus more impactful.
major gripes
a) machine that believes he is human...
WTF?? all the terminator films the machine knows its a machine and is only designed to blend with humans, not to be human...The fact they were (in the 2 first films) self-aware makes them more intelligent and scary as an enemy. Being blinded into your own existence is a WEAKNESS, a bad one.
b) wtf WOTW?
why does that big machine resemble war of the worlds imagery. Fucking atrosity. The predominant ground units in terminator lore are HUGE TANKS, not giant biped versions of t-800's. What is that shit.. Air units = hunter killers, ground units = mass t-800's. Problem solved..
c) Bryce Dallas Howard
why? she looks like she has little chemistry with bale. Its not that shes not attractive...its that shes not really a badass attractive. Even Claire danes kinda became believable as badass SORTA
Time will tell, I guess :)

It can't be worse than 3.

Come on, it would be a joke to have Arny...This is before they have the T-800 which is what Arnold is, the T-600 the one with the ruber mask are the the current models in this movie, what i think marcus, the one that thinks is human I believe he comes from the future and i guess doesn't know or was programed to believe it is human...
I know this movie is going to be bad ass...

It seems to have some eye-candy from the special effects department, by I am a bit suspicious about the plot. Only time will tell, in fact, just as Wake said. I personally think that the T-800s are scarier than the big robot shown in the trailer, for the sole reason that they look human.

I like the fact that they have the T-600, becuase in the first Terminator movie, kyle talks about these T-600 that have the ruber masks and how the resistence spots them easily. And i like the how they show these concentration camps were the robots round up people as work slaves, I keep in mind that this isn't the first two terminator movies...This is Life after the nuclear fallout, the war with the machines. What alot of people complain about is the story in this movie, i don't see how they can do this, the movie hasn't even come out yet for them to complain about it. All they have are trailers and that isn't enough to right this movie off.
-
I said I was suspicious about the plot given the impression I got from the trailer; it doesn't mean I'm saying the plot is far fetched, i.e. not at all believable giving the background set by the precedent movies. And I didn't mean the T-600; those are good. I meant the big one that smashed through the building, the one that was like 100 feet tall. I sure hope it works out, since I like the series. Hope the Terminator is really back. *that was a lame joke; go find a hole and hide there*

It can't be worse than 3.
Your grievances? I didn't see anything wrong with it.
Heh, I still have 1 and 2 on VHS. (Among other movies)
Avoiding most of the posts as I despise spoilers.
Why must trailers spoil things?!
Aliens and one of the GoldenEye trailers are examples...
But that is off topic.
~Old-post-is-old edit (PM for cookie if found):
@Strike-through: I don't know why I said that at the time, because T3 most definitely set the bar much lower...

I got the first disk of a miniseries from Netflix. The description on the sleeve blew the ending. Way to go!
Roger Ebert's blown a few films, too. And you know he does it purposefully for films he doesn't like just because he can.
