Title: Something to keep yall occupied...
Post by: Meliadoul2k on February 01, 2009, 07:18:38 pm
With the release of Beta 3 soon I'd bet most of you can't wait to play it.

If you own Portal then there is a few things you can do to get hours of enjoyment of the game. The first is a mappack made by the people who created Portal: The Flash version.

This mappack is very fun and to be honest I enjoyed this more than the actual game! If you're wondering what Portal: The Flash Version is, it's basically a 2D flash game based on Portal. It's pretty fun and takes about an hour to complete.

The second thing I'd recommend to Portal owners is Portal: Prelude. It's basically an unofficial prequel to the events that occurred in Aperature Laboratories. Be warned, it's very difficult! It relies more on precision jumping than puzzle solving.

The last thing I would suggest requires the ownership of both Portal and Half-Life 2 (or any other Source based game). Using a file merger you can put Half-Life 2 scenes and maps into Portal so you can play Half-Life 2 with the Portal Gun. It is very fun to go through City 17 and explore the places you couldn't normally go to.

That's all I have for now. I hope you enjoy what I have posted. Have fun.

I thank you in the form of rep for putting that all together. :)
I'll look in to that.

I currently don't have Half-life 2 nor Portal installed, But I'll bookmark this page for future reference.
You did a great job compiling this for the community's use and I'm tempted in giving that HL2-Portal Gun combination a try in the near future. Nice job, Meliadoul2k.

On one of the websites I listed was an advertisement to a free, legal download of Half-Life 2, but I wouldn't trust it. If you're confident, though, the link: *Please don't post links or information containing to illegal activities*

Btw, the PC version of The Orange Box is only $30. Definitely worth the price.

Please don't post links to illegal activities, no matter how free they say it is.

It wasn't illegal. The advertisement said it was legal. Oh, and you can't advertise illegal downloads. If it was illegal, the website would've been taken down, so therefore it's not and my post should not have been edited.

Yes, but Half-Life 2 is not free, and thus it is illegal to distribute it. The advertisement might be legal, but I don't want to be tied to anything like that. Especially since we use the Half-Life 2 SDK

I see your point. I wouldn't want to cause problems for the forums.

Has anyone clicked the link? I assume it would be like any other "free" thing on the internet. Sign up for so-and-so service, then you get whatever they were offering, be it a iPod, a 360, or even Half-Life 2.

In that case, I don't want to be contributing to marketing programs either.

Thanks for the info, Meliadoul2k, but I have the Orange Box; just don't have those two games installed at the moment. And I'd never fall for such advertisement; it is absurd. If you know a little bit about Half-Life 2, you know it is not free nor there is a way to make it free (no ad-support here). In fact, you should always pay for a game like that.
