Ok the new forums are running but are far from 100% setup. Over the next couple of hours i will be installing some mods and extras to bring it back inline with the old forums.
Please post suggestions, ideas and feed back here.
-
How about add some new themes? I didn't care too much for any of the themes on the old forum, and I don't like this current one either.
-
Am I the only one to dislike this 'new' theme?
-
I just said I didn't like it. lol
-
Wakes gona be cut. :P
-
I'm liking the wooden look. This site feels fresh again/
-
One of the few things I don't like is how all the names are the same color now. I really liked how before you could tell the status of each member by the color of their name:
Orange=Developer, Green=Beta Tester, Red=Admin, etc. Now they all look the same.
-

Im not cut, personally I love it and im keeping it as mine. Some mods bind you to forum themes simply because they have only one. If you were are able to select some on the other forums, and on this new forum isnt that all you need?
Possibly we'll load up some alternatives, but the point is to have them slightly custom so that its a GoldenEye: Source forum, and doing that for X themes so we make everyone happy isnt in our capability time wise.

Bear with us, we havent even finished doing that kinda stuff, expect maybe 24 hours to work out those little things.
-
I'm perfectly fine using SMF Default. I think I would like the new one if there was a lighter version of it.
-
Love thoses greens bars.
However, there's a glitch. Look at the left of the "Logout" button. There's a small button...
-
I new theme's nice, though the old one was good too.
Is there going to be an option to switch between the two?

That was a mod and will be coming back soon.
And the small button was the staff page. It has been fixed.
The old theme prob wont be coming back as it is a smf 1.1.7 theme and this is running smf 2.0.4
Oh and if you put your steam community in your profile it will use the info (like mine on the left) :P

Oh well... that was quick ::)

I will try to modify standard Blackrain V2 into the old forum look. It will still have the wood bg but will have the old buttons etc and a more grey/blue look with the orange links, as the old forum had.
I mean they will be seperate themes.
-

I did break the forums in the process though :P
-
The Steam thing is cool, though it does seem to get rid of the pretty bars and previous avatar. Also, the green name tag is back!
-
I like the new theme. Needs like bold links when its a new post or what ever like the old one. But I'm sure with time, it will be sweet!

AS i just installed the green name tag mod thingy. :P
P.s. Dam you kelly, you beat my playing time by .1 hours :(
-
The Steam Community thing is cool, but I think it would be better suited in the profile, instead of in the user column,

I think its cool there, just needs to be moved around, maybe something like this:

Interesting idea, im sure lodle will hate you but look into arranging that formatt.
-
Im not a fan of that. I am thinking of changing it around a bit though.
-
Well, the skin is a bit too dark in my opinion. I wouldn't mind a lighter version. Still, great work here. Left column definitely need a bit of changes - seen a lot of scroll'd avatars. And SMF 2+ is really nice.
Also, wtf with the WIKI??!!!! You backed up the forum, and it's the same as the dot com. But the wiki is fucking new on the dot net... Why don't you backed up and used the old dot com one??!! It just does not give prop to the man in the history. Your killing the WIKI the same way the forum have had with the invision/SMF change...

The problem is we dont have any access to the .com server at all. This is the whole reason we switched to .net and we are lucky we could do a db dump from the forums admin page with out needed access to the box.
Ill get sean to ask scott but i dont think we will be able to get one.
And the avatar thing is because 2.0 limits the size of the user column (means people will need to have smaller avatars)

I would suggest you to freeze the current dot net one and then beg scott to give you a back up of the dot com maybe along with other things you might need.

I do not think the wiki is that big of a deal, as was losing like over 50 thousands posts from our forum history two seperate occassions.
The thing is, we "could" have ported each wiki page one by one using a wiki method called "export/import pages", which brings history across but that is too much effort. Each must be done individually and thats not including the fact that the userdatabase still wouldnt link unless you created your username again. Thats all iffy.
Look at my wiki thread in this section to find out what the plan is with wiki and why a fresh start is ok in my book :)
-
Are you going to add a button to the wiki like the old forum had? That was a handy button.
And after getting used to it, I actually like the new theme. Go figure.
-
Yes ill add it back in time. Atm im trying to work our what caused the server to lock up before
-
If my input matters, I like the new theme. The wood texture makes me feel like I'm loading a magazine on an expensive fancy MI6 table to get ready for an agent mission (if that makes any sense at all.)
-
Its excactly what i think too :P I heart it so bad. Theres still the bolder font issue im working on.
-
Looks great guys. I hope you get all the problems with the Wiki figured out soon.
-
The 'Quick Reply' feature is nice
-
I absolutely love the look personally.
-
The 'Quick Reply' feature is nice
It was there before, you just had to turn it on manually. You can go into your profile and turn it off, on but closed, or on with it open.
-
I do like the Steam statistics under the avatars and such.
-
It could be nice if you can add the "source bond" logo at the right of the forum's title.
Edit : Holly shit, gotta love the new smileys. :P
-
The registration screen has a few issues. The background for the password input is white, as is the text.
(Made me get my password wrong a few times, plus it looks like it isn't showing up.)
You also are required to add a steam account, which might of been problematic if I hadnt remembered my username :-P
Other than that, I like the new look, it's fresh, yet dark at the same time B)
-
Are you certain you "have" to fill in the field? I doubt lodle would have done it that way, rather just offering you to input your url for the usercolumn plugin.
-
the steam thing should be optional. Ill check that out
Edit:
Thanks for reporting that, it was a regex problem that wanted a steam url but i forgot to also allow for a blank field. Ill also fix the white text problem.
-
Would it be possible to not force the Steam display pictures? I have all my tacos sized specifically, and a lot of these Steam images are cut off anyway.
-
dont fill in the link (use the website box for your profile then) :P
-
I'm going to give the new scheme a chance before making any bold statements.
Glad to see everyone here and just about everything intact.
Uh, any chance that the max space for avatars before the page bar appears could be increased? Otherwise I need to shrink it, and that's no fun... :(
-
I was going to increase it by a little bit, not sure if it will be enough for your avatar though.
-
Increase it enough so the steam ones don't look weird.
-
I didn't put anything in and I'm not infected with Steamstatsspam.
I win!
-
Ok, there are two check boxes in your profile now to control how steam community stuff is displayed except they are not working atm. :(
Im in the process of fixing it.
-
I definitely like how the whole thing is turning out, except the forum skin a bit too dark and the non backed wiki.
But is it me or the website is fucking slow? Takes 20+ seconds to load a page...
-
Most of the time i find its pretty fast, some times how ever, it is really slow and i think its a max connections problem. I am looking into it.
Also this is why we moved now not right before beta 3. :P
-
Imo in normal conditions its faster than the old hosting we got on .com and it loads forums better, when it isnt mysteriously glitching. Me and lodle are trying to figure it out. Bear with it if you can.

It's alright again.
I was noticing that too.
Well, I just went into paint and cut the excess off my avi.
Still works fine. :)
*sigh*
I miss the other emoticons, though.
*finds new complaint topic*
Edit:
Well it's temporarily slow again.
2nd edit:
Nominal again...

The transition still has a few bugs to be worked out but we are aware of the problem and are trying to fix it.
-
Is there a spoiler tag? If not, can we have it back?
-
i think that was a mod, ill have a look at it but im busy with work atm.
-
Spoilers like this??
-
Nah, it was a noice expandable clickbox.
-
I like spoilers that way better, (highlight version).
-
Our project director has spoken!
-
All right, changed some settings on the server. Let me know how it goes.
-
The "I agree" part on the community page on the front page doesn't show up really, only the corner.
(http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/8858/captureic3.png)
At least one other person has noticed it, who I was talking to.
Works right in IE, but not in Firefox.
-
Interesting... Probably my doing...
Hmm, why does it double space on Firefox...?
-
same on iPod/iPhone.. which is safari.
(http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/5674/photosa8.jpg)
and Google Chrome...

Not to bitch or anything, but the developer page has some formatting problems.
Under Lead designer, "Tyler Georgeson" is italicized.
The heading "Lead Sound Designer" is italicized.
Under Lead artist, "Konrad Beerbaum" has no formatting.
It's not much, but it's there.
-
Under Lead artist, "Konrad Beerbaum" has no formatting.
Because his real name is the same as is forum alias, and so instead of having it twice, i just put it once, without italic, which goes with the rest of the real names formatting.
The other stuff is fixed. Will look into the problem with Firefox/Safari, etc.
-
Will look into the problem with Firefox/Safari, etc.
Just remove the , and you should be fine (dunno how, maybe joomla is adding that).
why does it double space on Firefox...?
Hmmm, problem with CSS. Gecko (html engine of FF, Safari, etc.) is sometime gay, too. Look into that:
.post_text {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 12px;
float: left;
width: 480px;
font-weight: normal;
color: #2C1E1B;
margin:0;
padding:0;
margin-bottom: 20px;
line-height: 20px;
text-align: left;
}
-
On a side note - I'm still getting some unavailability peaks, never last too long, but still annoying.
-
those CSS values do not exist in the site code.
So i think FF and safari is adding them therefore I cant help that.
Go with opera if you want great browsing.
