Hello and welcome to my first Developer Blog entry. I've decided to post this in celebration, archives is finally to the point where I can run around in it and be satisfied. This map took years to develop, and it's evolved as my life has. It went from a trial assignment to my biggest project. I proved to myself that I can commit to large assignments. I hope you guys will enjoy it.

I'd like to show my appreciation for the team, without you guys I wouldn't be as inspired to work on video games. You're all saints for working on a game for free, and giving it away. I'll be with this team 'till the end.
Also, beta3 will blow your brains out with awesome-bullets.
-
Oh god! That's a good entry ;D!!!
Luv the first screenshot... and all the others one.
On screen #4, is that the new ammunition box? Cause it's super cool!!!
And I was wondering if the shelves whit books was a model?
-
Nice man, I like it, can't wait to beat you in your own map lol :P
-
Great. I love how it evokes not only the feeling of the original map, but also the movie, while at the same time adding something new to it. Looking forward to walk around on it.
-
The rustic look really does it justice. Real good work!
-
Looks awesome dude. Amazing work ;)
-
I love how the bookcases turned out.
Are those props or brush-based?

probably models actually.
someone confirm.
-
yep they are models.
-
ohh very nice. This map looks crazy beautiful. I thought the old one was good..but this won is 10x better than good. :) Good job inverted.
-
beautiful. absolutely beautiful.
great job.

Just looking at that first picture, I was wondering if you can use that ladder, since there was none in the original, but if you ask me, it balances the area more.
Also, can you still jump out of the windows to get to the street?
-
That ladder is in Beta1_1 Archives, and it works there, so works in this aswell.

Yes, the ladder is usable. I feel like it fixes the map a lot too. You can't jump out of the windows, I considered it but then decided not to.
-
So what is this map exactly? The wiki lists both a front and back zone, the latter being just added which means they probably added it in time for Beta 3. So are we only getting front and back or will there be a full version as well?
-
Well, the bottom one says front zone in the link at the top left.
-
Man, that looks really nice. And it does remind me a lot of the place in the movie. It's always been one of my favorite maps, though. I can't wait to actually run through it.
-
Bonus: The next post's suggestion will be added into the map if it's not too extravagant.
-
I suggest being able to jump out of the windows and perhaps use a ladder to climb back up to the top floor. It would really help open up the map. Otherwise, you could go deep into the back of the bottom section but if you wanted to get back to the top floor, you would have to walk quite a ways. Same thing for going to the bottom section from the top floor.
Of course, this is assuming that there will actualy be a full zone. I was hoping you would answer that question.
-
I agree whit this one.
-
I'd like a crate pile because ladders really screw things up in Source.
-
Yeah. That would be more realistic, too. I mean, you're not just going to see a ladder going up to a window that shouldn't be broken in the first place.
-
I assume you're talking about the windows where Bond and Natalya are escaping in the SP of GE64.
well, i think if added, this should be a one way thing.
So you can jump out of the window, but have to get back into the building through the windows on the lower floor.
A ladder up to a window doesn't sound very realistic and by adding a crate stack or something you would block one of the windows on the groundfloor.
-
I could imagine this in Archives_Classic, though not the modern version. In my opinion the modern map is more than good enough.
-
first off, we gotta get together because the escape from archives into streets needs to match. (As well Facility backzone and runway!

Maybe a crate stack at the end of the row that doesn't block anything, or small ones in between.
I am seeing how this could be weird, so we should at least have the one way jumping out of the windows if this won't work. It was a element of the original game, afterall.
-
If I remember correctly, there were no windows on the main floor, so the create idea should work.
-
There are windows on both the top and bottom floor. The ones on the top are right above the lower ones.

Yup. But aren't there at least three sets of windows on each floor? Even if some crates did block one of the windows, you'd still be fine.
-
What about a fire escape? A set of railings outside the windows, with a ladder leading up to it?
-

True, but I think that should be avoided if all possible.

Good idea. It's probably possible to fit a door on the wall before the windows and have a set of stairs.
-
Finally getting to walk around in the inaccessible areas will be kickass. ;D
A lot better than "Nice try. Wait for next release." :)
Of course, it created a field of mystery.
Huzza for 100th post. =)
-
Just letting you guys know, I'm working on it. It won't be elaborate, but it could save you if you used the path in a game.
-
I suggest being able to jump out of the windows...
I added this little area so you can jump out of the top floor and safely make it to the bottom floor.

-
Is that the area where Bond and Natalya escape in the game? Looks great. Thanks. So you won't be making a way back up to the top floor? Probably better to have it close to the original as possible, but just wondering.
-
Yes, it's where they escape. I kept it simple because I'm finishing up the map.
-
Looks great. Can“t wait to storm around wielding two DD44's!
-

Id be carefull about mapping areas that are specificly in Streets. Only for the fact that we SHOULD match the levels so they flow into each other. I will not have the areas you posted in streets
-
The problem is, I had the outside area mapped long before you even started on streets. I just detailed the area up a bit to add that outside path. We can work on matching it up better later on, I just want to get my level release-ready.
-
As long as it doesn't limit Streets to be during night time and have the same brick buildings, it should be good. I wouldn't want Streets looking like Archives for the sake of variety.
