I recently reinstalled GE:S and every time I click 'Find Servers', only four servers show up, and all have 0 players.
Did I install wrong or something? :(
-
You may have only installed Beta 1. There's a Beta 1.1 patch out or whatever you want to call it (can't give a link at the moment, sorry) that has over 10 servers, and almost always people playing.
-
4 servers? This is beta 1.0. Instal 1.1 patch.

-
Why do people even bother hosting beta 1 servers anyway?
-
I've tried! I followed all the steps for installing Beta 1, ran Steam to make sure it was in the games list, then installed the 1.1 patch exactly the way it told me to, ran Steam again and it still says "Goldeneye Source Beta 1"
:( halp!
-
Did you use the .ZIP or the .exe patch? I've yet to have a issue with the .exe, and its just easier.
-
...Actually, I've noticed a smaller amount of the usual servers lately.
Not four, but at least a third or even half have been missing.
To answer the title of the thread, yes. People often think it's vacant, but you just have to be on at the right time. ;)
There's usually someone, but for all the regulars and familiar people, you just gotta catch a wave as it were.
-

Believe it or not, there are people out there who still play Beta 1.
-
Yeah, I just downloaded 1.1 today and the servers were dead. I'll be keeping an eye out from time to time though for activity. I'm extremely impressed considering this is just a BETA.
-
Yeah, I play this, but as everyone else says. No one around.
-
i was wondering that too as it seems all the servers are empty and i have 1.1h and i'm kinda confused
-
My tip is just dont play GE:S until beta3 comes out. You'll love your choice to wait in the wings for the ultimate goldeneye release to hit PC ;)
-
Aye GES beta 1.1 is a pain in the arse. Heres to next year sometime :)
-
next year? You don't give us much credit
-
Well, it is only 20 days away. A certain coder said he's only completed half of my last fix list, and then we need time to run another test and then I make another list...
-
Seriously? So Beta 3 is expected to be released on or near December 31st?
-
Last year we decided not to pull the do-it-by-Christmas shit because that was a big part of the Beta 2 disaster.
Everyone was happy with that until late October and then ZOMG XMAS fever started frying braincells.
It will be released when it is ready for release. Musing when that will be is futile, but it is certainly looking sharp. My intuition is that Christmas would require imprudent rushing, but early/mid January should be very do-able, with more goodies in February, just like Alpha 1.0/1.1 worked out.
This is completely me talking out of my ass and is not in any way a statement, official or otherwise.
-

You took it the wrong way. I very much doubt mr coder (being you) is going to be working his arse off for a christmas release (family time etc). I'm more than happy to wait till next year anyway, gives the current B testers a bit more time to iron things out. At least the weapons are coded well by VC, heres to accuracy and spamless sessions to come. :)
-
Not totally spamless, remote mines still exist and people who suck at frisbee demanded I make them more forgiving after I nerfed them into a more skill-dependent device.
Then again, against AR33, I might wind up buffing them. Just need to see burst fire get implemented and have some test sessions on the set.

fixed

Need tazerboy plus for that.

Are there any aussie servers for this game? I would love to get involved but the pings to the few servers that are available tend to be too high.
-
Not currently but I expect the koalas in dev and testing will put one up.

Gamearena host a beta 1.1h server already. Anyway as Viashino allures, me and lodle will hound serverhosts from ausland when the time is right. If i get my way it will get par devotion as DOD:S gets, and thats a commercial title.. :P

Allude, not allure. Unless you knew I was dressed all sexy when I posted that.
-
I got a guy I was talking with a guy in GES who has servers in Sydney, i bet he'd give a killer deal to the Dev's ;)
-
It would be really nice to have this to play for Christmas vacation and I'd definetely send money if you guys would accept it.

Sorry, both cannot be given, the game for x-mas or a donation accepted by the team.
However if you want to donate to the wake-for-2008-better-family-xmas-gifts fund, my paypal is.....
that is mostly a joke :P i think it'll be itune gift cards all round, rinse repeat.
-
If you wanna support the game, put your money in hosting or donating a server when beta 3 comes out.

I think a lot of people are thinking along the same lines. Beta 1.1 is great, and it was a lot of fun, but now we've seen the improvements that are being made, and it's hard to stay interested in the original (especially after all this time). When Beta 3.0 comes out though, there'll definitely be a big spike in the population again. People still love Goldeneye and the devs here are doing great work. Ya just can't expect everyone to swing by everyday when there's a lull like this.
-
oh DAMNIT i was about to get on and look for you guys, but then i remembered i had just reformatted. please tell me beta 3 will be easier to install, what a pain in my ass it was for 1.0 and 1.1. not to mention i have to fnid my orange box disc now *sigh*
-
how is double clicking on an exe "pain in the ass"?
-
eh? i had to download some wierd thing on source then in stall this then in stall that THEN downlaod v1.1 then install that and enable this.
something fucked, i don't remember. if it's just double clicking an .exe i must be following old instructions

1) Download beta 1.0 (http://dev.goldeneyesource.com/wiki/index.php/Beta1_Mirrors)
2) Run it, and it'll install a folder in your Steam folder
3) Download beta 1.1 (http://dev.goldeneyesource.com/wiki/index.php/Beta1_Mirrors)
4) Run it, and it'll install the new version in your Steam folder
5) Open Steam, go to your games, run 1.1f
You shouldn't need to do anything with source or enable something. It's pretty much just opening those two files, and letting them work their magic.
-
...Open Steam, go to your games, run 1.1f...
I thought everyone was running 1.1h?
-
I thought everyone was running 1.1h?
There's a 1.1h?
Holy shit, there is. And patch G fixes that crash on map changes. Badass.

Well, that confirms that I'm using the latest.
Didn't even know there were multiple letters, though that makes sense.
The more you know...
-

he was talking about the SDK base i guess.
Well, that's something you need for every source mod and valve did it that way, so don't blame the GES team for this.

Yes, I was wondering if anyone played anymore because it seemed that most of the time, all 8 or so servers would be empty. But of course, it seems people actually play during weekends (or at least Friday nights). Can't wait for beta 3, guys, it's looking incredible!
By the way, I've been lurking the forums here for over a year. I usually check in to see how the development goes. I'm a programmer in web development coding in ASP.NET, AJAX/JavaScript, and SQL mostly. I work for an insurance company in Nebraska and I'm 22.

I just played a few fun games with about 4-6 people over 3-4 games/levels last night. However, that hit detection is fucking horrendous, I've splattered people with the automatic shotgun (blood flying as if it was quake 3) and nothing happens and bam I die from PP7. Having heard the developers say the hit detection is fixed in 3.0 does make it less exciting to play this game when LTK is gamble not skill. I mean come on, I shot that fucker like 10 times and we were all under 80 ping. (old rant i know)
-
You should wait a little while and play Beta 3. : )
Shotguns were tweaked a week ago and they are quite competent at close range and rather savage at point blank. I had to buff them over 007 to get them balanced, though, since the lead stock is much more rewarding of accuracy skill than they were on N64.
-
Nope, nobody plays this anymore. :( We are all saddened.
Just Kidding...
