Title: Golden Gun
Post by: Cyan on November 01, 2008, 07:44:35 am
Their was a piece on the new game to be released based off casino royal & quantum of solace that mentioned the original golden gun looked/functioned unlike the one in the movie. So they are going with one that looks like the image for the book below.

I think I saw three frames of the golden revolver on a QOS video somewhere.

I like the three-piece one-shot AuG better.  The bolt-action timing keeps you from taking it into a firefight unless you are sure you have the tactical advantage, you never feel safe to spam it, and the boxiness makes it look unnatural and alien without looking stupid (viz anything in PD).

The book-jacket version looks like a capgun toy you would give a 50's 6-year-old. Also, a raven pooped down the barrel.

I vote for the film version.
Pros:
It's unique
It was in the film
it was in the original game
every1 expects the GG looking like in the movie
I like the sceen where scaramanga assembles the gun
The other weapon looks just like a golden revolver
And it just looks that way because of the illustrators lack of creativity
It's much easier to model then a revolver and
it's allready done

cons:
...

Flawless victory

I don't like that revolver one either.  It's a moot point though, its going to look like the one in the game, because thats what the game had.  It is way too iconic a gun to change.

Kraid, the reason that the gun looks like that on the cover has nothing to do with the lack of imagination of the illustrator.  The original novel clearly says that the golden gun is a highly ornamental gold plated .45 revolver with an ivory butt.

looks like the books aren't always better than the movies.
