Title: Third-person animations
Post by: Jonathon [SSL] on May 04, 2008, 04:16:35 pm
I noticed that most of the third-person animations in this game are taken from HL2 Deathmatch... are the developers ever going to make their own animations that actually make it so that the models actually fit with their weapons.

Like, take this for example, in the original GE, the characters held their weapons with one hand.

Character animations are something we would like to do in the future but at this time they are pretty far away from being worked on.

I believe the plan right now is to use the hl2 anims for most of the animations, and create custom animations for holding the weapons and death animations.  KM created some custom weapon animations for the 1.5 build, so it is definitely possible, but it is a lower priority right now as we try to polish the gameplay.

the biggest problem we face for doing custom animations, is getting qualified animators.  good animation is very tough to come by, and those who are talented enough to do it, generally wouldn't want to do it for free hehe.

but yea its totaly something we would love to put in game though once we have to opportunity to do more visual fun stuff like that.

Indeed.
Seeing someone holding an invisible magnum with two hands looks a little off. ::)
