Are the newer versions of this any better? The first version was just HL2 DM with goldeneye skins.

If the last version you played was the alpha, yes.
The newer versions have more maps and weapons.
And a recreation of Surface.

Umm, Goldeneye: Source isn't just HL2:DM "with just GE skins," it required coding, music, modeling, unwrapping, texturing, animation, etc.

There's no "Easy Button" for mod making.

dude theres totally an easy button for making mods, we just don't like to push it cause we love torturing ourselves.

i prefer the tommy Lee version of the button press from the pam and tommy video where he used his wang, try it next time your in an elevator and need to go to the top floor.

I just tried it now and figuratively speaking it still is HL2:DM with Goldeneye skins.

I won't trash it all together though. The other aspects of the mod like the models,sounds, and maps are very well done. It still feels far too fast paced compared to the original goldeneye
