Title: Beta 1.1 Unofficial Patch

Well some public GES fans have asked me to make a patch version which fixes the server crash and multi fire bug. So i present you with GESBeta1.1 ***unofficial***.
This means that the GES Team will not support this patch at all and takes no responsibility for it. Support for it will be in this thread only.

Linux version is now up. :P


Beta 3 is out now so no need to download this any more. Check the wiki if you still want a download link.



Credit Goes to dlt for making the scoreboard back ground image.

It will make a new mod folder and wont change any beta1 files.

It contains nothing but my work, installs to a new folder (leaves gesbeta1 alone) and is what i was going to release the week after i left, if i didnt leave. It also fixes the major crashing bugs that have been effecting ges for a year now. If you release a patch in the next month or so people will still be happy, but for now they at least can play on stable servers.

Linux version is uploaded but i cant test it due to my linux install not being able to run srcds. Let me know how it goes!

So, does this mean we don't need to supply players with weapons anymore?? (Edict crash..) Also...will everyone need to update to 1.1 to play on our servers??

:edit: Also - can players still see both sets of servers? Ones that are stable from 1.0 and ones that are 1.1? If not, we need to decide if someone is going to make this "semi-official" or not so that half the players don't end up having 1.1 and the other half just have 1.0...

Yes

No, but, you can see 1.0 and 1.1 by changing the game under the server browser (via Steam)

Should be able to use the default load outs. :P

Ok, so I got two stable servers up. Seems to be going pretty well. Congrats lodle  ;D

Here's some of the things I mentioned before. I think most of this will improve the gameplay. I've also seen a performance increase with this release. Even the intro video doesn't skip for me now.

- Weapon damage back to normal
- Teamplay on the scoreboard (It shows the different teams with different colors and puts teammates together - old scoreboard)
- respawn time reduced a tiny bit?? (not sure if you actually changed this setting)

I've re-implemented ES because we kind of came to the conclusion that it makes the game much more interesting. I'm also going to go back to the older loadouts.

I do get a lot more random activity on the server console though, not sure if there is an increased server load because of this...

Linked Fixed for version b

Ok version c (uploading now) fixes the first two points. Dont think i have touched respawn delay (tried clicking once to respawn?).
The console spam ill try and remove. Most will be due to stuff missing that was in the dev build. Also proxies work on my server but dont on yours. Ive added a dev msg to see why.

EDIT: I forgot to change a file in c so i have to reupload. Should be around 2 mins

You know if you wanted to work on the game and maybe the stable release, you could just come back to the team and do it up all big through official channels, and so we didn't have to worry about code iteration. This just kinda bothers me a bit. Not to mention blowing the load on the new hud and scoreboard...

I'm glad people are digging it but...dude....ouch.

Listen and window$ srcds seems to work.

As for the Linux (1.1a) .so, i've had something up for 10 seconds. But next srcds (not beta1_1 .so) pissed me off with a loads of "segmentation faults". Can't spend more time on this ATM, but i'll try again next friday.

Ok doc. i had loads of problems when trying to compile the linux version so i will try a different linux versions tomorrow and see if that is better for you.

Playing today (both beta1 and beta1_1) i have to say that i dont miss multifire and i enjoyed playing (and i have a ping of 300).

Version e is out with some feature requests from educator and laggy. :P

EDIT: Version f fixes the game type in the server browser and is only needed for servers. This will be the final version unless any other show stopping bugs present them selves.

Awesome man. You pretty much nailed the gameplay down to a T. Teamplay mode is so sexy now it's not even funny. I'm currently at work now (seemed like such a short sleep :-\ ), but I will have version F up as soon as I get off of work.

Thanks again for all the work you've put in, I think everyone is going to love the new updates!

:edit: I kind of felt like I was in the twilight zone last night lodle, LoL. Patch - setup servers - test - re-config - test - download new patch - update servers - test - reconfig - test - and so on, from about 11pm til 4am (my time.)  :P  - all the while testing your new theories for certain bugs before releasing patches. It was a good session.

*If you guys are playing and any of the servers crash, try to post here exactly what map it crashed on. I'm anxious to get home and get the 1.f server patch up.

What lodle means is that some of the stuff included in his patch is new stuff we are still working on and haven't released yet.

Glad you got it sorted out in the end. If you wouldn't mind, what did you do the first time that caused it to install properly? A few others have said they've had trouble with the install...and I was just wondering if they were installing it the same way you did the first time.

I Placed the extracted files in steam/steamapps instead of just steam folder. Thats where i went wrong, maybe others are like me and dont bother reading simple intructions  ;D

I think it's safe to say that when you upgrade, your GE:S beta 1.0 folder needs to have the following name: "gesource" - without the quotes.

I think if this is set, installation should be a breeze.

Hey mark,

   Now that I have tried your patch, it is amazing. However, I Found 2 bugs I think would be really nice if you could fix. Both include getting kicked out of the game.

First:
   When changing maps, everyone in the game tends to get booted. The game crashes and says HL2.exe error and goes back to windows. Its just the casual hl2.exe error so its not anything special i should take a picture of. It only does it when you change maps. It booted everyone in every game i played on so i Know its not me.

Second:
   Me and other players keep telling me every once in a while they receive a "client timed out" error. It kicks out of the current game and put you back at the goldeneye source menu. It doesn't always happen to often but it seems to be an occuring bug like the first one. The first one is the worst if you could fix that.

 Thanks mark, and if you can't, guess I will have to just wait for beta2.

DUDE!

  Wakeofthebunt..I am not stupid. I have the latest version as I just installed it and Lodle knows that because I asked him about it this afternoon. The file on this page is the same as the one at moddb. It is still crashing. The first crash is the worst. Unless my game is messed up but I am 92% sure that it isn't because everyone else I have talked to is having that same problem with the 1.1f patch. So please Lodle, if you could spread your guidance, it would be much appreciated.

Also, I talked to people today playing 1.1D and they said the reason they don't play 1.1f is because of the crash errors. Other then that, it is perfect. So please, if you could fix these 2 crash errors, everyone would switch over and Wakeofthebunt's problem with everyone not switching would be over.

client files havnt changed from d to f (it was a server fix only). Fixing the spec crash atm.

I think the second problem is the server. But i have never had it happen before.

Lodle,

   After doing some more testing. I found that it only crashes when the round is played all the way through and the server changes the map for you. If you do an RTV, it wont crash. I don't know if that helps at all. I am going to go test your 1.1G and see if it is fixed, if it is, I will come back and say so.

EDIT: So will this fix the problem even if I play on a 1.1f server. Is the error client side or will I have to wait for the servers to put 1.1g on? Thanks Lodle

1,1g is only client side fix (using a pointer with out checking it first crash) so servers dont need to be upgraded (but they should to keep inline with clients). Let me know of any more show stopping bugs.

Oh well, I am running the servers off the 1.1g patch anyway. It almost seems as if performance increased serverside with the new patch, as well helping it to ping lower.

You have to actually look at who youre shooting at now...but yea, if youre far away I guess I could see how this is a problem. Luckily friendly fire is turned off.  ;D

Ok specs are not ment to have the new scoreboard cause it looks silly. Guns dont rotate (this was not done by me, think scott added it in). Thought i fixed the name thing. It should be red for janus and blue for mi6, so if your on janus enemy names are blue and mi6 its red.

Yeah linux was a bitch to compile. Ill try again this week end to recompile them.

MOAR PLAYERS /wants goldeneye source pwnage

now that i got my 8600GT card my frames are perfect for GE:S i get no slow down even with high settings on Cradle and ping doesnt seem to make a difference to gameplay with this patch coz i just nailed a guy with 3 pp7 shots unaimed from long range hahaha.

Seems all that cleaned up prediction code nonsense cleared things into a better-than-alpha-state.

In other words get fucking playing coz wake is going to pwnzor and needs fresh meat!

btw, what happend to the round timer? do i have to rely on "timeleft", to see if its worth joining in on the massacre now?  someone said it had moved to the scoreboard, i cant seem to find the sexy little thing though.

And all players still had red names when we tried TDM before  :P

Ok round timer is moved to the scoreboard, if you dont have the new one with a green back ground then something went screwy with the patch or you have an old version and should install the newest one.

Can you also please take a Screen shot of the names and ill have a look into it.

Also due to Doc.No not telling me he didnt include all the files before, the first version of the exe install was missing the key files. Please redownload it and run it again (only upgrade this time).

Oh and in tdm all mi6 players are bond and all janus players are the Russian dude.

no one i played with had any counter timer on the scoreboard...  :-\

And the names on the scoreboard is fine, but the colors when you aim at people in-game is kinda strange..

Possibly another bug but I am not sure, occasionally the health bars still don't go away and you have to hit tab. For the most part, they were solved with the updates but they still sometimes get stuck on there. I don't really know what causes them though. It isn't spawn or picking up body armor...maybe it has to do with getting hit or something. Either way, its a minor thing that if you feel like fixing, ok!

Well... Played a lot today, and here are some bugs:

With team deathmatch + friendlyfire off: there is still some blood if you shoot a team mate.
With team dm + friendlyfire on + a team kill: the penality impact the killed player, not the attacker.
With team dm: team talk isn't working, or at least the (MI6) and (Janus) behind the name in the chat are no longer implemented.

And I would like to have, if its possible, a server var for the ranking type on the score board (rank by KDR like 1.1h or rank by kills, like beta1)

Great job, just one more thing that needs to be fixed: Ammo boxes don't provide throwing knife ammo. I miss my throwing knife kills.

Hey Mark,

   I keep getting a new error with the new version that when I close the game (hit quit in the menu), it begins to go out but then gives me an error message saying (hl2.exe error).. I don't know why it does it while you leave the game but just thought I would let you know. Thanks

I cant change the download page because i dont have access to the ges  profile (some moddb staff merged it before). The crash happens with other mods as well and we think it is due to shaders but ill have a look.

Why? The aim of the patch is not to make a new version of ges but to fix the current version so it doesnt crash and is playable.

Okay, so far I have:
- YOLT
- LUA (Hmm... rather limited in beta 1, so no need of it if YOLT works)
- team spawn points (info_player_janus & mi6, not sure of the name though, I need to check the entities)
- ge_weaponloadouts (i.e. possibility to choose a weapon set with the CVAR)
- ge_itemloadouts (like above)
- erm... hitboxes. Have been improved in 1.1, but yet not perfect

lau im not touching as i removed it before cause it was causing some problems
weapon load outs im not touching as then ill have to recompile each map
hitboxes we dont change. Its based of the standard box

2 other bugs:

1- On the Team Selection board (i.e. TeamMenu.res), when players uses the "Auto Select" button, they always join the MI6 team. Quite annoying on a Team DM server since it would result in a 1or2 (in janus, only regular players would choose this team) VS 6or7 (in MI6) players game.

2- Team score can sometimes be glitchy: it should be 46 here, not 0 for Janus. Its not a problem here since theres only 1 player. Can be more annoying with 4 or 5 players. It happens on a random basis.
