think of it this way. I really liked perfect dark. I really didn't like TFC. Lots of us had funny PD related ideas, so we made a video regardless of how good or bad PDS was. so me not coming from a TFC background i wouldn't know much about the mod and how true it is to the original. the source mod todd mention is just a punchline.
so how good is the mod?

I played a little bit of Well today. I don't know i exactly what the issue was but it just seemed way to hard to get in to get the damn flag. I am going to play more later and try out the other maps. Another thing that annoyed me was sometimes when I tried to jump out of the water its like my character just stopped then sank to the bottom. Mainly happened if I was in a corner or something.

It's an excellent mod, extremely fun to play. So far, after 2 hours, I noticed there should be a voice icon when people are speaking over the mic. It sucks to not find out which person is talking. I also believe there should be name tags on the players. Other than those two minor things, the game is crazy fun! My favorite map is aardvark.

I played it. Pretty enjoyable. I'm not a TFC purist though, and I'll probably enjoy TF2 more.

Absolutely. The pure franticness of it would be hilarious
As for the mod, it is really fun and fast paced arcade style gameplay, although I feel some critical elements are somewhat unbalanced. The turrets deal massive damage but can be taken out with a grenade and a shotgun blast, the super shotty feels nerfed, the soldier can tap off rockets faster than jesus, pyros flamethrower is near worthless (although the burninator rockets are fun), the engies conc nades are a pale shadow of their former retarded awesomeness, the sniper laser guide is the size of a volley ball and easily visable, the heavy is...well... the heavy, the demo man feels much deadlier, although I like that since he felt worthless in tfc, the spy's cloaking is awesome

i dont think the flamethrower is bad. its WAY better than in tfc, actually. and i always played pyro in tfc so i think i know what im talking about ;D was probably teh best pyro in brazil, no one could stop me in flagrun

i used to conc nade spam the shit out of people so im disappointed :D
