Title: Q Lab ; Special Report
Post by: Wake[of]theBunT on April 01, 2011, 05:40:02 am
Special Report:

Q's lab has recently released some tantalizing information on a nifty new gadget coming to a
special agent near you. We have been able to isolate the essence of every one of 007's enemies and
allies alike and distilled them down to simple computer input languages! This will come at great advantage
for your training missions to prepare you for your ultimate confrontations. Read on to learn more about
this exciting discovery...

GoldenEye: Source is announcing the ability to program AI from within Python! This amazing advancement
allows us to define the actions, decisions, and personalities of enemies and allies with minimal programming
and rapid prototyping. Every other mod and game out there is stuck with hard coded Artificial Intelligence
that is static, predictable, and boring.

Highlights of Python AI:

Uses of Python AI:

So 007, I expect you to harness this power with utmost prejudice. Your next step is to enter our life-like training
simulator to prepare for upcoming missions of the utmost importance. Q out.

just to set the record straight....

This news is 100% legit

We are tracking remarkedly well on AI development and it is true that you can code an NPC in 30 lines of python if you so desire.

Right now I am working on bots, proving to be very challenging, but that too shall be conquered. The main challenge is how to get NPC's to act like players. Utilize the robust AI framework coupled with a player proxy object so that it can interact with gameplay, scores, etc.

Does this mean bots are coming? That would be awesome, especially if you could pick hardness of each one like Perfect Dark. Or even give them the ability to lean out from behind walls etc, this would give a nice single player aspect to the mod for sure if you could set yourself challenges, it would also be a great way for newcomers to get some practice.

If I got you right, We are one step ahead into the development of Single Player, Although there must be hundreds of thousands of steps.

Sir, You made my day, And it started four hours ago.

we can have options like Combat Simulator with special levels like in PD?

Much Easier:

All you need is a few dozen volunteers to man their computers 24/7 to be the enemy player. Easy as pi, unpredictably, incredibly human-like AI.

Seen a slight glimpse of this a while ago, even then was looking SWEET. I bet by now its twice as good. When KM is quiet, things are dangerous.

KM, nobody likes you because you're dangerous.

"That's right..ICEman. I am dangerous"

some might say KM is gonna take it right into...the dangerous

Man, I was on the "too good to be true". Really looking forward to making some custom gameplays with bots (Survival games, the Baron really being Master of the Dead?)

Shame, this mod needs this badly, I can't get a decent game anymore with the high latency as you can see by my activity, at least if there were bots I could setup my own custom games and challenges. Ah well, At least I got Crysis 2.

Awesome.  There are so many possibilities for multiplayer now.  Sure single player mode would be sweet but adding AI to the current modes would be great.  Especially when no one is online then I can just play against bots for practice like Perfect Dark.  They should have the advanced bots look like little green aliens.  Those basterds were hard as hell to beat.

Actually i can confirm that the bots are real (well atleast i think they are)
because i saw an image of Oddjob with a overlay above him called "bot5"
when they were testing the "hat hax"- well seeing if he should wear a hat or not

We've always had bots for testing, just they were static. Now... well you'll see soon enough.

Anyway we can get those? I would LOVE to be able to test my modes with even static bots.

Not a whole lot we can do for you now, but keep at it and might be pleasantly rewarded soon enough. We value mod contributors and active people greatly. You can see some of the top current and former mod contributors are taken care of.

I and a lot of team members will go out of our way to help in anyway we can. If you ever need something tested and need it done in a rather short time and can't rally people feel free to message me(and I'm sure other team members), and can test stuff for you. My computer is almost always on, so if I'm ever out I usually get home to a handful of PM's asking for little help. I also offer two dedicated servers to test things when needed as well.

Just remember, we may not always seem active 100% of the time. But we are always working or helping with something, always.

When you are thrown a bone, do not expect all the meat to be on it.

That would be a suitable impromptu analogy...

To build on it poorly, there are more bones before you have a complete skeleton!

We're busy working away on all things GES. Also - skeletons. When we have more news, it will get its own dedicated post so it doesn't get lost in something 3-4 months old.

Title: Re: Q Lab ; Special Report
Post by: major on June 29, 2011, 10:38:02 pm
Like always said, when a team(specially ours) is quiet for a while its typically good. You can see by our post counts and general activity we are still here. As you can see from KM little update couple weeks ago, he is extremely busy with coding. And all other fronts are just as busy working away.

We are to the point where we arn't just throwing tons of content aimlessly into a new version. But we are redoing/making content mash together more smoothly, for a in general way better game. While there will always be the big groundbreaking features we add every release, there is stuff a lot of people wont notice but makes the game run tons better.

Well i think there should be some achievements for Killing Bots and such

like

Agent- Kill 50 Bots

Secret Agent- Kill 100 Bots

00 Agent- Kill 500 Bots

Do bots not count for achievements?

Why call them bots and not Sims?

While the bots in PD were called Sims, most people can refer more easily to the term 'bots', after all, I think.

As for those bot related achievements - if there'll be any - I'd vote for winning matches with x bots set to a certain difficulty level rather than mindlessly killing y bots.
