Title: So What can we expect for 4.2?
Post by: Rick Astley on March 30, 2011, 01:18:38 am
So i was wondering with the release of V.1 (no longer beta) i was wondering what would be included in 4.2 (since V.1 was 2 maps and updates/bug fixes)

would Janus appear?

V4.1 added and changed much more than that.
http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/V4.1_Changelist

Although, I would not expect a new release anytime soon, 4.1 was publically released on december 11'th.
I doubt there is much documentation about the next release, In fact, I believe there is none.

Why don't you tell us what you expect to see and we'll respond with whether or not your expectations will be met ;-)

Euphonic's Casino Royale game mode officially added (The Deathmatch and LTK variations, at least)

The doors in Facility Classic fixed and new textures added that more closely resemble the N64 version.

Improvements to ge_aztec that include getting rid of the spawns that are right on a ledge next to a bottomless pit, ways to drop down to lower levels without taking fall damage (particularly down into the exhaust bay from up where the console is) and speeding up those slow stone doors.

At least 1 new character (preferably Natlaya, Xenia or the Janus version of Alec)

At least 1 new map (Surface?)

Terrorist
Siberian Special Forces
Scientist (a)

Yeah, I really hope to see Natalya (she is my favourite character after all (I never played as Oddjob, and everyone said he was the best character)).

Of course, all of the boys out there are wanting to see Xenia, because she is the "hotstuff", so I guess there is high expectations there :P

What I want badly:
Terrorist

That model was terrible... It was just B's (Or Helicopter pilot) eyes between an orange and black hood with a Bond suit.
If they do this character, It should be totally revamped.

*Nataylia
*Dr. Doak

* Classic Egyptain and Aztec
* The Surface 2 Song (that was in the preview)

Here's my GE:S secrets video (http://youtu.be/bbHfWPwf-As), Aztec secrets start at 1:35 in.

Also, if there were any chance of making Casino Royale official, I would be very willing to work on my code more to polish it to the GE:S standards.

No, was the Janus Special Forces body.  The Terrorist has a unique head that no one else uses, AFAIK.  Helicopter Pilot had a visor to cover his eyes,

I think Dam XBLA would be much much better- i saw the pictures of the dam from the cancelled XboxLive Arcade version and they were fantastic...honestly i hate nintendo from the bottom of my heart for making them cancel the xbla version

No, it was Nintendo, they wanted to have it on the Wii too with a ridiculous amount of a cut of the money made. It wasn't technically possible on the Wii, so the whole project got shut down.

I'd like to see:-

Dual wielding
Bots
Shooting gallery with challenges & scoreboard (So we can compete for first place)
Caverns overhaul (Like Silo got)
Caverns front area
Surface map
Streets map
Depot map
Jungle map
Frigate map (But not as compact as the original)

How's that for a list, should only take a few years, ha ha.

Make it a toggleable option in the console because the original mutliplayer did not have dual wielding, And to keep balance within all players. (That is if the dev's actually do it.)

The only way I can see Duals working is if it was its own game mode. It would only happen if the weapon set had two of the same weapon on two different slots. So ingame the player would have to travel to one weapon spawn, then go to the other weapon spawn, obtaining two unique weapons slots.
Title: Re: So What can we expect for 4.2?
Post by: kraid on April 30, 2011, 07:47:41 am
IMO it could work at least for the pistols and other weak weapons like the klobb.

True, it would be total anarchy in other games modes like LTK for example. But DM wouldn't be too bad with it especially if you could dual wield weaker weapons like the Klobb as Kraid suggested

I definitely think we should be able to dual-wield crazy stuff like Rocket Launchers and RCP90s somehow. It's part of the crazy fun GoldenEye is known for. Only being able to dual-wield weaker weapons in normal game modes and the crazy stuff in a separate dual-wielding game mode sounds good.

>Implying that you did that before on multiplayer.

There really is no point to duals, and its more of a con than a pro. You use twice the amount of bullets, for the same wait time between shots. Lets say that I unload a RCP-90 clip into a guy. Only one bullet is going to hurt him, then the invulnerability will take effect, and each shot while that is in effect is just wasted. Now I have twice that amount being wasted. Duals also will just increase bullet spamming rather than timed shots and aiming.

They should be added, just for the sake of nostalgia at a minimum. We can regulate them how ever is needed, but they should be there. My $.02

Yeah, it's just for the novelty of it, really. Who here didn't like turning on the all guns cheat and messing in around in single player with dual anything? Now that we have the chance to include it in multiplayer, we should.
Title: Re: So What can we expect for 4.2?
Post by: JcFerggy on May 01, 2011, 08:05:28 pm
Don't get me wrong. I believe they should be added, but I don't people realize how much trouble it is just to have something that is going to hinder you in the end. Maybe a console command would suit it best, with the logic of 2 unique weapon spawns with the same loadout.
Title: Re: So What can we expect for 4.2?
Post by: Entropy-Soldier on May 01, 2011, 11:20:49 pm
To be fair, it would actually be easier to get kills with dual versions of most weapons; most people just spam head level and don't have to worry about body shots, even with bullet spread in most cases.  There's also the presence of weapons like the Golden Gun and Cmag would become much more powerful, even to a player with good aim.

And i believe dual rocket and grenade launchers were also available in the original?

Actually, We are talking about the dual-wieldable weapons in the original.
Single player is surely very complicated to do.
Bots? Well... That recent update on the forums told us that we have a great possibility. Maybe someone not in the team could code some bots and release it as a plugin.

Well... Let me take shots in the dark.
The bigger rock to climb might be...

-Guard paths
-Objectives
-Gadgets
-Interactive AI (For an example, Guards triggering an alarm like in Bunker 1, Or a scientist putting his hands up.)
-Working alarms and guard spawn points
-All characters/guards/scientists
-All maps
-3 different difficulties + 007 mode
-AI in general
-Voice acting? (VC, Promise me you will voice a main character.)
-More props (I believe a few are missing.)
-Working cameras
-All translations for dialogue (The community would help with that for sure.)
-Cinematics at beginning and ending of all levels
-Testing all of this.
-Building in a "Geddan" bug that won't crash the game, Just for the nostalgia.

@namjna

Good list, that pretty much sums it up.

@all else

lemme just sum it up that I am using the exact same code for AI as I am for bots. This way it would be a direct extension into single player. The ironic thing is single player AI is so much easier to implement because its already designed into the source engine. In order to use it for bots I had to invent a hack that emulates a player proxy on top of the AI code to enable interaction with existing gameplay infrastructure, scoring, and everything else that multiplayer has.

Sounds very complicated, but very interesting. I wonder why Valve didn't design the same interfaces (or at least similar ones) for multiplayer bots in source games anyway. I mean they did some CS: S bots, right?
Title: Re: So What can we expect for 4.2?
Post by: killermonkey on May 06, 2011, 10:44:12 am
The CS bots were created by Turtle Rock Studios which is why they are not part of the Sdk. I believe they did it the logical way and put an air layer on top of the player interface.

unfortunately that is not a choice for us because AI entities are branches off from player entities. This does not allow for proper polymorphism and usage of underlying functions, hence the proxy player.

Something fueling the interest?
How about an epic announcement on the next release date (even if it's vague), a video showing prototype bots or a list of the things that have been completed since 4.1 and what is currently being worked on?

Then again, I wonder how many people would become interested that aren't interested already - at least something like that would be something I'm interested in. ^^

Your last statement is what 99.9% of community members in mod communities and in the gaming world want. It takes a lot of effort to make a "epic" announcement and that just takes away from the free time they have. This is exactly what Black Mesa stopped doing as well (although they are kind of in the grey area right now with nothing for 2 years or so), but the concept still applies. News and media will come, just be patient and play. :)

As long as you don't monitor our playtime and make a release depending on it - like, you know, Portal 2. ^^

The tracklist of the soundtrack for Black Mesa had been posted recently - and it says on their forums they plan to release the game within 2 weeks after they released the soundtrack. (concerning updates I heard they had a wiki and a youtube channel)

I wouldn't mind seeing some more female characters like Xenia or Natalya. The game's a total sausage fest. How about M or Caroline (Stop this car at once!) later on after everything is said and done. I would like to see Euph's Casino Royale game mode get added in because that is so much fun to play.

Hopefully the Surface and Depot levels can be finished very quickly so they can be added too (I'm dying to play the Surface personally).

well its not a total susage fest- there is the female scientist (with a G Cup breast i might add-yeah im sad but lets move on) and ofcourse there is Mayday who...ooh i guess thats not a good example of a female Charater..

i would love to see Natalya or even Anya Amasov (from TSWLM) and im looking forward to the Aztec Remake and Surface or Siberia

The problem with Aztec, imo, is it doesn't capture the "feel" of the original -- the new one is way too dark and isn't that great contrast between the old Aztec temple and the new rocket base.

We need a new version, with fancy shiny technology and a giant space ship, and visuals that may tribute to the movie and the game. And less secrets.

1970's super computers. Cheesy post-modern futurist decor. Overgrown dilapidated ancient ruins. A 7:10 scale model of the NASA space shuttle. A meeting room that doubles up as a rocket exhaust flame trench.

I think though that even if we do a new version, I vote that the window in the computer room with a bunch of screens stays there, It prevents camping in the spot where the armor is. (Which is quite lame, I must say.)

That's what you get for investing in something like this (http://www.amazon.com/Fellowes-6-Outlet-Strip-15-feet/dp/B00006HQR8/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1316158910&sr=8-16) rather than in something like  this (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G15-Gaming-Keyboard-Black/dp/B000UHE8YM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316158997&sr=8-1) :P

There's also the registry fix that you could bind on some macro (write a batch that checks the value and sets it accordingly to its current state and bind that batch to a macro) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216893

Ok, to get a but more on topic now. Will random map cycles and random made on server startup be added? I know it was addressed before, but I cannot remember what was said. As much as I love the map cycle I have, I don't like thinking up a new map rotation or picking a new map for the first match by hand. Guess that makes me a bit lazy.

I really want to see Janus Trevelyan more than Xenia, and we need Natalya, so we have a female MI6 Character, and another MI6 character. Maybe one new map, some bugfixes, fix the weird crouching glitch (the one where you remain crouching when you die.) And in the next update, not to be too far ahead, but I think that characters need to close their eyes when they die, I know it's unnatural, but their glare stares deep into my soul, and it just freaks me out. I'm no programming, modeling, or animation expert, but I think it shouldn't be THAT hard to do. But hey, whatever you say. This mod is pretty much complete with multiplayer when it comes to coding and weapons, but maps, not so much. Either way, you guys have done an amazing job, and keep it up!!!

I think 4.2 will be just amazing. they´ve worked so hard creating some beautiful prostitutes and beer to satisfy the players. no weapons, no maps and no bots anymore. just capture the cunt, a real cathouse-experience. and I can tell you, the animations are spectacular! its damn nice to be a quality assurance tester, oh boy. we live the american dream ;P

you don´t have to wait, valentin is the cunt. and its nearly impossible to catch him, because he´s so damn fat. it takes 10 minutes to reach the capture area and that´s what makes this gamemode so interesting. and there´s a special feature: the developers implemented the possibility using valentin as a human shield against the bullets.

I believe we are missing something in the game play experience of GES online play. How many servers are hosting gungame?  sorry im lazy to check.

Killermonkey, is it possible to install Gungame 5 from here http://forums.gungame.net/ (http://forums.gungame.net/) and make it work with GES?

I only play gungame in counter strike source. that is so much fun!

edit: ok so I noticed v4.1 does have gungame, but is it similar to what CSS has? Do you start off with a pp7 then end with a knife?

If I or someone gets a working gungame server, with great music after someone wins, and friendly server staff, im sure that will lure more players in.

or I will post a flyer in our school and post the website of GES/facebook/Google + page and maybe that will bring in more people and get noticed. We have weekly pool tournaments and arcade tournaments, so I will fill the fucking wall with GES flyers lol! That should bring in more players.

May I do the above with your permission devs?

There are even several game modes bringing a gungame like experience to GES.

For one the original GunGame mode that will spawn you with a strong weapon and give you a less powerfull one for every kill you score, till you finally reach the Knife-Level and win with a last kill.
Killing someone with a knife will decrease the victims level, killing him with slappers will grant you armor.
The server admin is able to choose which weapons will appear simply by editing the array line in the script.
I've heared that there will be even more improvements in the 4.2 version of the gamemode.

But there are also Casino Royale and OHMSS gamemode that have a lot in common with GunGame.
The later one i'd call an enhanced gungame mode.
You need to deal a certain ammount of demage to switch to the next weapon.
Others then that it works like GunGame.
The first one has a timer. When it runs out, all players switch to a new weapon and are able to use it till the timer runs out again. Weapons are choosen randomly in this mode, so you'll never know what's next.

Looking at the python code in the gungame you linked makes my head spin. There are like 50 py scripts in that zip file to accomplish essentially what our gungame does with logging and some other fringe activities like sounds playing, etc.

Basically, I am really glad we implemented our own gameplay system because it looks like making a gamemode with es python is a BEAR.

TL;DR
No, we have our own gungame and if you don't like that code another one.

Funny thing is, the original developers of that Gungame were hired by Valve to code GunGame for CS:GO. I dunno what the fuck is Newell doing so that he hasn't seen what you guys have done in this mod, more specifically in the coding part. Oh wait, it's because it's better than Valve's that they don't care... nevermind.
