The fonts are located in Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\gesource\resource\.  There are 5 fonts in there.  However, since you can't see the menus at all, I don't know if that is your problem.

Can you post any relevant information about your system and how you installed?

Make sure your firewall doesn't block the hl2.exe and GameUI_Overlay.
This happened to me once i was loading HL2DM and it stoped at the loading screen and i wasn't able to shut it down or minimize it.

I just re-read your post.  Are you saying you don't even have fonts in the steam server lists and stuff outside of GES?

Goto your steam folder and delete every thing BUT steam.exe and the folder steamapps. Then restart steam and it will download the missing files (and hopefully fix this)

You haven't broken your PC with all kinds of uxtheme decimation have you?

I had a similar problem when I did that on an older PC, which happened with a range of things from general installers to half of ZoneAlarm.
