Title: Source Shader Editor Plugin
Post by: kraid on July 19, 2011, 10:11:10 am
I just found this on moddb today:
http://www.moddb.com/engines/source/news/source-shader-editor-plugin-released/#2337255

Looks like Valve keeps the promise to improve the SDK tools.

Looks interesting, but I don't get it how you can do like a gaussian blur shader, an animation shader (like an animated cloud texture on a sphere with an Earth texture) or more complex shaders with that. Well, I just had a quick look at the site you linked, but if these are possible drag-and-drop clicking your shaders looks very comfortable.

Really nice work! Now we just need a WYSIWYG map editor!

Lol, Valve would never be bothered to update their 8-9 year old map editor...

It looks a lot like the UDK material editor, allthough a little more complicated.
Might be more powerfull, too. At least if you know what you're doing.

As for the integration into GES, i'd say this could be a cool feature if we have some ideas what for we could use this custom shaders.
New Golden Gun material maybe, or classic goldeneye glass for the _classic maps?

Wow looks like Valve learned how to write a proper API finally. I can integrate this ASAP.

Why KM, this editor is designed to be able to create shaders for source without programming knowledge.
Ofc. it also helps to have some basic programming knowledge but it's not neccessary in the first place.
